    Re: Newbies Nest

Morning nesters, Byrdie I'm not sure how to word my prayers either for this, just want my family safe first and foremost very quiet here this weekend, hope everyone is ok, wish I was one of those people who can sleep in, I wake up too early cuz my body clock is used to getting up for work, now I'm up just to sit for extra hours and think too much and wait for my phone to ping with a delivery but most people don't want stuff delivered til around lunchtime or late afternoon/evening when I don't want to be out but whatever, much love to all and wishes for a happy and healthy AF day!
I have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

I'm taking care of the "tomorrow me"
Drinkin won't help a damn thing! Will only make me sick for DAYS and that ugly, spacey dumb feeling-no thanks!

i'm doubting if i haven't already had corona without noticing it, because i've been in close contact with someone who was tested positive (she told me a few days ago). she had only a very slight throat ache, and had herself tested just in case, because she works in a hospital. she said that if she wouldn't have been as highly alert as she is right now, she never would have given this thing a second thought, leave alone to stay home from work for it. and she wasn't the only one in my vicinity who later turned out to have had more or less strong symptoms.

meanwhile i'm still relieved of being out of the darkness. and being able to connect to my love again.

hope you all are well dearest people.

        Hi, All:

Glad you're feeling better, Julia. We've had a few fevers and "colds" here this winter, too. I wonder if we haven't already had it, too. I think there will be a test soon to see who has the antibodies. That seems like that would be freeing for a lot of people.

Pauly, I usually can't sleep in either - that's why it was so notable. I was up with the sun again this morning...

I am trying to relax into this thing a bit, but I'll admit that I am worried a lot of the time. It seems that it hits suddenly and ferociously and that my area is building up to the wave. I feel helpless. So today I will do a yoga class, meditate, and cook some good food. It seems the least I can do.

        Happy SOBER Sunday,
        Pav

          Hi, Nest

To cope I've been busy creating, listening to an audiobook, reading a paper book, binging on a show, and otherwise distracting my mind. It feels a bit manic so maybe I should follow your lead, Pav, and slow down. I've had little interest in eating so pretty much no interest in cooking. That needs to change given that this looks like it will be going on for awhile.

I had a couple of drinking dreams. In one, I was drinking something like whiskey (which I've never even had) and thought it tasted horrible. But I kept having more and at some point said to whoever I was with, it's just like wine - If you keep at it, it starts to taste good. Well, no it doesn't! We just tell ourselves it does because we like the effects. I another dream I didn't even have the 'fun' of drinking - it was all about the acquiring/hiding/disposing which is pretty much impossible under the current circumstances. Although they are upsetting, I'm glad to have those dreams now and then. I'm so grateful to be done with all of that.

That is great you found a job, Pauly - drive safely! It is good to hear you are feeling better, Julia.

          Take care, all. xx

Pauly, I woke up this morning thinking about my old job, too and the more I thought about it, the madder I got. So I got up before the sun. I haven’t been sleeping either, since I quit that job, really. It’s just an incredible time. A defining moment in history.
Drinking dreams are so weird, I think they serve an important purpose. They usually make me appreciate how much I love being sober! I never liked whisky either, but there at the end I chugged some Tequila I had in the furthest part of the cupboard because that’s all I had. Can you imagine how we would be scrambling now if we were trying to stock up, while trying to appear perfectly normal? I rotated liquor stores so the clerks wouldn’t think I had a problem. What I didn’t know is that they rotate, too. One day I went in a store all the way across town and there was my local guy! Yikes! I’m sure I wasn’t fooling anyone (but myself). Those weren’t the days.
Hope everyone is having a safe and sober Sunday! Byrdie

Hiya SB, Pav, Julia, Pauly and evabody.

We sure are in the midst of this. A sense of powerlessness is understandable. For me, i just refer to my daily anchor. My little self care routine. That's something i can control. I can keep caring for myself and checking in on where i'm at every morning, tweaking what i need to where possible. So far so good. This must be hell for many people. I think for us though, maybe because of what we've been through with booze, that we can still find/maintain a sense of gratitude in the face of the storm? Just my thoughts.

Big waves and hello to all. Take care of yourselves.

                Good evening Nesters,

That's right G, I’ve read over & over that we need to focus on the things we can control to save some of our sanity

Pauly, good luck with the deliveries. Does that include groceries too? Just wondering & wondering how long it would take you to get here with my order

Pav, my DIL’s Dad was discharged from rehab after 2 weeks because he had met all of his PT & OT goals ~ except walking because of the untreated ankle. That’s the way Medicare works!
I just feel bad that this ankle fracture is now 4 weeks & 3 days old & have no idea how it is healing. Poor guy!

Julia, glad you’re feeling brighter now.

Byrdie, I’m so grateful none of us are hiding any substances in strange places anymore, haha!

NS, I’ve pushed myself to get out walking everyday because my B/P has been spiking. It seems to be helping with the added bonus of sleeping better too. Just a thought to pass around.

Hello to all & wishing everyone a safe night in the nest!!

                Lav

Nothing exciting here, took a walk between rain showers & was surprised by a big fat groundhog who ran across the road about 4 feet in front of us. My dog went crazy, haha!!!
Texted my son who is quarantined & he says he’s OK. I sure hope so. Said he’s using the time to get a lot of studying done for an upcoming promotions test.

Hi all, sorry I wasn't around much this weekend - I suddenly have four new students and they all wanted to meet this weekend! I need the hours so I made it work for all of them, and also managed to take care of a large grocery pickup order. Our household should be all set for about 3-4 weeks other than fresh fruit/veggies and other perishables. I feel like I accomplished a lot!

Julia - glad to hear you're feeling better. That must be such a relief to feel like you're "back" or similar.

Pauly - That's great you're delivering for postmates. Do you get a decent volume of work? And is traffic at all lighter in your city due to the "stay home" orders in many states? Here the traffic is less than half the usual, at least that's been my experience the last two times I had to go somewhere. I hope that the work flow stays steady and that you're able to stay safe.

Ok NS and Byrdie - enough with the drinking dreams! I do think they play a valuable role actually, but I don't think I've heard the two of you mention having them very often.

Ava - great pic of Carl and Bacardi. Sounds like you're settling in with working at home. It is odd to think that your hospital (clinic?) will never be the same, but it's entirely true.

Our next door neighbor is an ER nurse and we had a chance to talk with her across our front yard today. She was really honest about what they're seeing and what they're expecting based on numbers and how the virus is spreading. She seemed very concerned and reinforced that things aren't going to go back to normal any time soon.

Hellos and waves from 6+ feet away everyone! Stay safe and healthy, and don't drink. Our immune systems are all much stronger for being sober.

                    Evening nesters

I managed to go into work today to the non clinical area of my work and spent a couple of hours just socialising with the drs and admin staff. It was much needed. Our circle was rather large having to be 1.5metres away from each other but we were all very aware of what we had to do. Normally if we have not seen each other for awhile we will give each other a hug but sadly no. we made plans for when this is over and we can hug the shit out of each other.

I facetimed my daughter today who visited a client who's partner was diagnosed with covid a day after she had been there. I am not used to being the voice of reason so i asked my boss. i did the staff questionairre at work and i dont have to isolate as i had seen her a few days ago so that is a relief as i felt guilty that i had been to the shops and who could i have passed it too and off went my brain. Happlily i have not wiped out half of the world.

Work is a bit more normalised now than it was last week, we seem to have our shite together. I need to rearrange my work station as my daughter is in there on the sofa bed and i really need better access.

Pauly, i could not be a driver as i am forever yelling at the idiots on the road and i am so bad at directions. When i first moved here the airport was a 25minute drive there and a 2 hour drive home. Im glad you are getting work, imagine if you were drinking and had to wait till the afternoon to do deliveries, that would so not work and cut into drinking time.

Wags, its funny how you get the real story off the medical profession, i think i am very aware of what is to come but i do get very frustrated with people also. Our government told us our number of new cases were not rising and so everyone was saying how great that was and i was saying we are coming into winter, its not going to be great. I am suprised that i am keeping it together though.

I need to start the self care and get my butt outside each day with carl, i need to get the vege garden up and running. my problem is i have work which really interrupts with all of this. ha ha. Todays pic is of carl bed hogging.

                          Hi, All:

I'm just starting on my Monday as yours is winding down, Ava. Love that picture - Carl knows who is boss! Glad you got to see your co-workers.

NoSugar - I have the opposite problem. I can't stop eating. Others I know lose their appetite in times of stress - I seem to find everyone's AND mine. As a result, I've been cooking too many delicious things. I'll be slowing down this week, as we do have a long time to go...

Wags, glad you got the clients - I would think a shut down would be a great time to concentrate on studying for a big test, although I have found that I am distracted and have a harder time focusing on my work right now. I take more "breaks." Today I am going to try to set some timers and really spend some time focusing.

Mr. G, that's about the right attitude to take. We are in a unique position to find the gratitude even in a situation like this. We are getting dinners with our kids every night. That hasn't happened since they were very little - before sports, meetings, and other activities ensured that one or more of us was out late or early. It has been nice to slow that part down.

I agree, Byrdie. Those WEREN'T the days. I do find myself thinking that a shot of tequila would take the generalized worry away, at least for a minute, but I don't have a hard time playing it forward. And of course, the worry is still there and would come back with a vengeance. I'm not going to drink - I don't drink.

                          Happy SOBER Monday,

Happy Un Hung Monday everyone. Grateful to be sober especially during this pandemic. Like you all have been saying just having to stress about it really sucks. Good thing you don't drink Pav. Tequila 'will kill you'.

I have been cooking up a storm these days but trying not to eat too much. Its pretty tough.

Job hunting is getting very difficult these days. I really don't want to work because I risk bringing it into the house and my kiddo has asthma and hubby works up in a camp so he has to stay safe when he gets home. The camps are a whole other story. Crazy times.

                            Have a good day everyone.

LAV… Sorry I missed your 11 year party!! Here’s a cake I (wish I) baked for you! There’s something so comforting about your words that spill over with simple wisdom. You have made a BIG difference in my life by consistently showing up and being here. Happy, happy 11 years to our Nest Mama Bird!

                              Screenshot 2020-03-30 10.23.18.png

Speaking of bird, hi Byrdie. Thinking of you today. You should put together online tutorials of baking for the school’s FCS (Home Ec.) courses. My son and daughter are so interested in cooking and would love to learn to do what you do! I know I’d pay for it!

Wags, YEA! for new, students! I think I have squeezed all I can out of current clients - I may have a 4 week quiet time now. Unfortunately, we may have to pursue legal action to get payment from our big mountain client. He has decided to not pay us for 2.5 months - which hurts. We think we can put a lien on his property, which will halt his construction loan. We were just hoping to resolve the issue amicably. UG!

Regarding Corona, I bet many of us have had it too. I had a couple weeks of strange symptoms, and wondered myself. WHo knows? If only we had an easy, quick test in large supply.

The weekend was good. I picked up groceries for two sets of parents and they drove to us to get them. We got to converse for awhile on the front lawn, with adequate distance of course. It was SO good to see them, but I really missed hugging my mom.

I also spent time generating a new household schedule, since the kids return to “online” school this morning. First thing I will be trying to do is get my workout in. Honestly, I have not done morning workouts since my son was born 14 years ago. I never realized how much resentment I have held because of that - mostly at my husband, since his schedule has barely changed since kids were born (and mine was turned upside down and inside out). I have to come to terms with this, and create the schedule I want now. Basically, I can be the victim or be solution based. So I’m setting up a win-win for everyone, including me.

i must say i just feel very calm and good. i almost feel like whispering this, as if it is inappropriate right now.
i am not afraid about corona. i am worried about people who are vulnerable in any kind of way and i care for them a lot.
but for myself i don't feel stressed or afraid. i like the silence, the clear sky (a really clear sky! and the stars!), the stillness of life, all that space when people aren't shopping or hurrying to get somewhere, the air that is so much fresher.
when i feel worried about my income, i go back inside to why i am doing the work i am doing, what drives me, and then i feel the love for my work and from there my creativity starts to bubble up. this doesn't solve the financial stuff of course, but at least i feel in touch with beauty again. better to be poor and in love, than poor and bitter.

well, i'm sure i'll be a bloody mess again in no time but right now is good.

                                hugs to you dear people
