    Newbies Nest

    Hi everyone

Been a while since I dropped in. Am off for a 9km run (training for a half marathon). It's the longest one yet...but I think I can make it.

    Have a wonderful week.

      Morning Nesters

Day 8 today and its all good. Trying to explain this is strange so i will just go: its not the wine or the taste or the buzz its the habitual hanging on to a glass. I would drink like it was medicine, toss it down then hang on to the glass like a life preserver. I will not drink anything out of a wine glass. Its my crutch that I chucked away.

Hill, in answer to your question the last time i drank i had just opened the 3rd bottle of wine. First and last time for that. Had been drinking about 2 bottles a day, but sneakily by halves, so there was always half a bottle in the fridge. My husband goes to bed earlier than me as he has early starts so sneaky is the only way to describe it. Weird how you reach for the milk for your tea in the morning and habitually reach for the wine instead, ha ha so funny, not.

So my boys are 15, 13 and 11, old enough to know there is a problem. Old enough to sense things have changed even in a short space of time and like the change.

Physically I am a little tired and have some headaches in the afternoon which seem to fix after a piece of fruit, but I have more energy at other parts of the day. But patience is the major plus. Patience with my kids, driving, with people i work with and others I deal with. Not too much is bugging me which is a plus plus plus. :thanks: as always nesters its a pleasure to be here. hp

Bean, you make me feel tired. Good for you. A 5km walk is about all I can manage.

Myhappyplace, you sound peaceful. Hope it works for you. My kids are about the same age and they do notice our excesses. Oddly enough, it took mine a while to register that I wasn't drinking, but they are making the most of it - asking me to take them places in the evening, knowing that I won't be half-cut. i cringe a little when I remember how angry I would be sometimes at being asked to transport them or their friends. It was really just that I wanted to continue to drink and couldn't if I had to drive. 8 days is good. It can be hard to stay motivated unless you keep your reasons in frront of you and remind yourself. I'm glad you're feeling the benefits.
Have a great AF Tuesday everyone.

Dancingon, I hear you mate! Cranky pants is not the word or is that words? Have to say did pick up duty on Friday night for kids movie run and it was no drama. would have been before...I'd also get agitated if someone said they were calling around and were late uuugh how yuk is that- that drinking meant more than friendship.

5km is better than nothing - aspire to be Bean!

                17days- 16 sleeps.
Feel like I'm riding the recovery rollercoaster at the moment! One day good next day hard.
Thought I was just starting to get proper sleep and then spent most of last night staring at the ceiling.
This rollercoaster may not be fun, but I'm gonna ride it to the end
Can I have a life please, make it a double - I've got some catching up to do!

Morning nesters! Hi mauri, well done on day 3

bugalugs, I was having difficulty sleeping at first too, bought new pillows and a bedtime 'routine', sleeping much better now. It is so much better to be tired rather than hungover though, isn't it?

Happyplace, bean, dancing, you are all doing so well and I am so happy for everyone who's made the change!

Day 14 today, a small landmark, but a landmark nevertheless. It all seemed so impossible just two short weeks ago.

Have a wonderful AF Tuesday everyone!

Don't let the sleep thing get to you, it will resolve itself. Have you tried any supplements with melatonin & valerian? They helped me out a lot & the Hypno CDs as well.

                                Hey Everyone

So glad to see you are all hanging in there and notching up the AF days. They soon start to add up. A couple of people said they were threading beads onto a string or putting a sticker on their cupboard door for every AF day they had. I thought a visual reminder was a really good idea.

I am trying these days to take everything little steps at a time. It works for everything - study, sleep, exercise, being AF, socialising...you name it, all so much more manageable when you only attempt what you can manage. The best bit then is that the confidence you get from achieving a small goal propels you onto bigger ones.

                                Have a lovely evening everyone
