    I'm new over 60!

I found this web site quite by accident after awakeining with a severe hangover. Been drinking since high school. Which is a very long time. I got the book, vitamins, & CD's. I went to the Dr. for the topo & she very Curtly told me no! I was devastated. I finally received some two days ago from Canada but it would be so much cheaper for me if I could get them through my insurance. I am secretly doing this and have not told my husband. He is usually pretty critical of all that I do. The good news is my physical with the dr. couldn't have been any better. Must be my strong genes. It certainly isn't because I took such good care of myself.

    Welcome, Peaches

    Welcome to MWO, Peaches!
I'm glad that you found us, because you have found a great place!! Sorry that the doc was not helpful. Are you in the US? If you are, you can find another doctor that might be more amenable to using topa. There are topics under general discussion that discuss unhelpful doctors. In general, psychiatrists tend to be more tuned in to what is useful for addictions or you might even look for an addictions specialist. There is also a topic forum for that under general discussion. This is all assuming though that you live in the US.
There is also a topic under general discussion for the 60's crowd, as well! You're in great company!!
Sorry your hubby isn't much help, but you WILL find lots of help here!

      new and over 50

I'm guessing we have a LOT in common.

I'm wondering if this can work without Topamax.

I've been on Prozac for years - and not honest with my doc about my drinking. He originally prescribed Prozac when I was sober for about 5 years - but that was over ten years ago.

Since then I've had panic attacks, so he added Lorazepam to take as needed.

I sure could use some feedback from anyone that has been treated for depression and then started this program.

        Tessa,
I think we do have a lot in common. I took Zoloft for years and now am taking Lexapro. So, I am being treated for depression too. I have just barely started the program, so can't tell you how it works. I am trying real hard but have a hard time with the cd's don't like sitting for a hour listening to water. I don't know if it's possible to do without Topo. I did not have the confidence to try, after the dr. turned me down for the precription I got it out of Canada & it made it here. I have only taken it for 3 days now.

              Moodus,
I ordered on line from a company called Lifhaus Medicines. There was a place you put your dr.'s name in. I did that which is one of my dr. but not the one I went too. They called me the next day asked me a couple of questions, like what was I using it for & how many a day & confirmed the dr's name. He said he was the pharmacist. I told him I was using it for epilepsy which now I wish I had said migraines but what the hell. Anyway, I'm here in TX & I got it within a week! He never asked for the dr. phone number or anything. If he had I would have hung up because I have never discussed it with that dr. It was just a formality.

                what now?

didn't you have to send the pharmacist a prescription? if so, where did you get it from?

                            Topa/lifhaus

Hello, I have used lifhaus twice and just put one of my md's names. They never called them, they phoned me and I received it within a week both times. No prescription from me..Hope this helps. I know what the website says but I've just gone ahead and used my female doctor's name. They've never contacted her.:l

Nope, no precription, nothing just a few white lies and I didn't feel a bit guilty since the dr. treated me the way she did. It was pretty condesending.
