    Concerned

I have become concerned about the drinking. Some days I have nothing and no craving, other days i may have a couple of glasses of wine with a meal and then others I have a lot. I seem to drink more when alone or feel anxious. Sometimes it is becasue I just feel low and don't like the feeling. I am worried that it is affecting my health. I don't have cravings it just seems that if alone and having a drink I have a large one. If I go out and am driving I don't find it difficult not to drink.

Hi Jon, If you are concerned about your drinking, then that suggests there is a problem, and I would say please take your concerns seriously. I can relate to what you are saying, I use alcohol to relax and help me feel better about life and myself, but that isn't real and it isn't a life. Are you in the ex pat community?? I know from experience (lived in Cyprus for a while) that alcohol flow freely in the ex pat lifestyle. and you can feel isolated if you don't drink. I don't know how long you have been looking around this site, Jon, but just keep reading people's posts, get a feel for the place and the programme. I am on day 4 of abstinance I have ordered the supplements and cd's and spoken to my gp about medication. I want to cut out the alcohol and then I believe I can seriously look at why I need to drink and to face my feelings of insecurity and find other ways to relax and feel good about myself.
