When I first arrived at MWO I was in a pretty bad state. I got some help and then got sober, then got in a pretty bad state, then moderated and then got in a bad state and have repeated this for a while now. So yes, it’s not an overnight thing.
What I have learnt is that there is no easy fix but there are ways to help:
One of which is the site itself. It gives a lot of understanding what your body experiences when you get drunk, and then what your body experiences when you stop getting drunk.
And finally, the options that you can explore to help you, some that might work, and some that might not.
I am by no means ‘cured’ but I am starting to grasp what I can do and what I can’t do. As it happens I need to get some things sorted after a recent binge and work on my life and I’m find that I can’t get my life back on track with drink involved as well.
As I’m now in my mid thirties I find that drinking takes its toll more than ever before and was managing 2 nights drinking a week fairly adequately, well - until the last binge and the one before that.
I’m going for a prolonged AF period again, I need to. After that well I’ve decided that I can’t do more than 1 night a week, and never consecutive. Now I have no idea if that will work but I have gone from 7 days a week, to just fr sat sun, to just fri sat. Oh and no wine or spirits just a few beers.
Zen – stick with it, don’t get too upset if you fail, just realise you haven’t found what’s right for you, move on and try the next avenue. If you know you have a night out coming up and know what you will drink, don’t fool yourself - just have a bit less or drink some water or avoid spirits, just anything to get you one step closer to finding what you need. I hope you make less mistakes than I did, but I did learn from them (well a little) each time and that’s what you need to keep in mind.
Best of luck and check into MWO, even if you just keep the bookmark – you’re know its there for you if you need it.
