    Day 1

:new: Hello..I have just started this journey today. Very daunting. Don't know my way round yet but hopefully i will get there..it's like standing at the mouth of an enormous darkened cave..baby steps..I have tried other routes in the past to help me quit drinking, but failed, so here I am..Day 1 again! By the way my name is "Juno" and I live in Ireland..

    Day 1

    Hey Juno, welcome!
Yes, the first steps into sobriety can be daunting, but once you make that decision and get going, the good things start to appear.
Have you read the book? There is also a very good thread in Monthly Abstinence called the Toolbox Thread. These will help you put a plan together for yourself.
Keep posting and asking questions, the support you will get will help you too.

      Day 1

      Hey Juno - welcome.
Do you have a plan in place? Or are you going cold turkey. Supplements help alot, and your body probably will need some help healing. Startingover gives great advise. Keep coming and reading and posting - you will see you are not alone in this battle, and though it is a daunting step, it is the right step.

Thank you Startingover. You are my first correspondence! I just got the book and look forward to reading it tomorrow when the hangover is gone. Wont miss them. I will also access the Toolbox Thread. "Living now and not just existing" sounds wonderful, inspiring. Thanks.

            Day 1

Hi Peanut. I am going cold turkey and you're right, my body does need to heal. I will look into getting supplements this week. I will put a plan together and try to stick to it. I am determined, scared to death, but determined! Thank you for your advice.

Hello Wally22. It's wonderful to realise that there are others in this cave too! It doesn't seem quite so dark anymore. Thank you. I will get those supplements.

                Day 1

                Welcome Juno,

It's good to hear you're so determined! That will stand you in good stead.
There's a post in the toolbox thread called something like "how to make a plan", which gives concrete ideas to start working on.

                    Day 1

Juno - I feel like you almost 5 days ago (getting late here so it looks like I can almost claim 5!)...I wish I could find all my posts over the past 5 days....you'd see very similar posts coming from me. You have the greatest help and advice on this site. And bottom line is, we're all in this battle together. Questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask! LT

                      Day 1

Hey Juno! Welcome! I'm on day 1 again. I get weak when it comes to the weekends but do a pretty good job during the week going AF. I'm processing through the hangover today, too...LOTS of friends in this "cave". Try not to think of it as such, though. Caves are dark and scary and there's usually not a TON of people in there with you. This new journey, admittedly, is a little scary but each day is lighter and lighter, I've found and you'll be with (and I think you get this already) LOTS of friends.

Look forward to seeing you here often!

                        Day 1

Hi Yogamomma. It is very crowded in here isnt it? Which I find amazing. There is such a sense of hope here I think I will be visiting for a long time to come. Weekends are my downfall too. And of course the Easter Holidays! Suffering now! How quickly we forget the pain! Thanks for your encouragement.

Thanks Last10years. I have been given nothing but encouragement and support from everyone. I hope that in 5 days from now I will be where you are now, more positive and hopeful...day by day..

                            Day 1

One last post as your notes really hit home....don't know of your situation with internet accessibilty, but stay on this site and read the posts as much as possible in the beginning. I'm probably driving everybody crazy with the questions, etc., but nothing but support here and I get to look forward to a hangover free tomorrow. Hope to see you on tomorrow. LT

                              Day 1

Hi last10years. Even in the last few hours I have found that this site is a lifeline. I was sceptical at first but already I feel more able to cope, if even in a small way. I can glimpse a way out. That's reason enough for me to keep returning! The idea of a no hangover day is pure gold! I have internet access at all times!
