Sick and Tired of being Sick and Tired!

I found this site yesterday and can't stop reading. I must stop and I don't think modding is an option. I tried AA a dozen years ago and relapsed and have been gradually spinning out of control ever since. I know that I am alcoholic and my wife supports whatever route I take to stop so that is a blessing.

I retired last year and it would be stretch if I have had 5 AF days in the last year. I have always been a beer guy and don't feel any need to drink until late afternoon . I will drink until too drunk to comprehend most anything else and then off to bed. Being retired I can catch a nap or two during the day to dull the hangover until late afternoon and then off to the races. Drinking races that is.
    :new:

    Thanks for the shoulder!

This is the first step of many as I struggle to get free. AA may be in my future as well as other options.

Right now, it just feels good to get the wheels turning in the right direction.

      Thanks,

Sick and Tired of being Sick and Tired!

Hang in there!!! I know exactly what you're saying, my favorite was Vodka -Stoli, because it's hard to detect and hangovers are few and far between, and I drank heavy, 1/2 to 1 fifth each day on the weekends, and 1/2 fifth everyday for as long as I can remember, 20-30 years, with some breaks to dry out. I managed to fuction ok during the day, it was the ride home that was a killer for me. I 've tried everything to stop, AA was ok, but meetings here are hard to find, esp when you need them, and I always felt I was imposing on Sponsers, with MWO help is avail 24/7 Believe it or not, this site, MWO has helped me tremendously, I am on day 20 AF (Alcohol Free) !!!!!!!!!!!! The advice & support here really works and we all people understand what it's like, around the world! Hang in there!! You can do this!! If I can anyone can!! Keep busy, that helps, if your wife is like mine, there's list of things that need to be done, take them one at a time. Now, just breathe deep and relax. Posting helps, as you can see I like to ramble, but it helps to get it out and talk about it!! You'll be fine!!

Sick and Tired of being Sick and Tired!

I got into a bit of trouble with the law over an ex GF during a binge. Entered a treatment center and then into AA.

I was AF for about 6 months and then the cravings hit me too hard for me to handle. And it has been an ongoing battle ever since. When I was working, I would need to get up at 4:30 a.m. for work. As the cycle progressed, I found that if I drank a lot right after work and pretty fast, I would be asleep by 8:00 or so and would get enough shut eye to allow me to function in my employment. But now without the employment regulation, it has just gotten much easier to say the hell with it and drink as long as I want.

I am losing interest in what I really used to enjoy as far as hobbies go and this only adds to the misery of knowing what lies ahead if I cannot stop.

              :thanks:

Sick and Tired of being Sick and Tired!

The cravings are tough, supplements help to reduce it, l-glutimine (sp?), milk thistle and sam-e worked for me. I had a tough time Sunday afternoon, all my work was done for the weekend, I was tired, it was nice out, and I was thinking a drink would be nice, but I fought it and won. Today, I've been good all day, it's been really busy at work, but I starting to get the urge, just had an orange..hoping that will help. I was the same, drank right after work, went to bed about 9:00pm..I get up between 4:30 - 5:00am. I don't really have any hobbies, except working around the house & yard. I just started a good size vegatable garden this year, to help keep me busy, and it's been fun, I'm getting into it. Exercise keeps, walking does wonders. Hey, your retired, never mind misery, there's got to be something around your area to do, walk in the park, volunteer work can be fun, no pressure, meet some new people. Anyway, I know it's hard but try not to think about what your missing in drinking, because in the end you won't be missing it. Things will get better!! See after writing this to you, my urge has gone away! Thanks! Hey, keep reading and posting, a lot of good people here!

Sick and Tired of being Sick and Tired!

Com1 ? I'm new here myself so for me to say welcome feels like I'm getting ahead of myself...but welcome aboard anyway.

Sounds similar to my own drinking patterns. Not really a big day time drinker, I've certainly never needed a 'livener' in the morning, and would avoid the pub at all costs at lunch time. Especially if it's a works lunch.

But, on arriving home from work, that's me on it. Like yourself it's mainly beer, with the odd bit of wine. But to be honest the wine is usually just whilst the beer is in the freezer getting cold.

I think the only way for me is abstinence, I honestly have tried moderation and it just doesn't work. One or two always becomes sixteen or seventeen, or twenty-five.

It sounds like you've got a good women on your side which has got to be a massive bonus.

Good luck with what you're doing. As has been said many times on here...you're not alone.

                  21 hours sober...well it's a start!
                  Keep on keeping on!

Sick and Tired of being Sick and Tired!

                      Hey!!! Welcome!
Yep, best to just stay away from the drink altogether. I find that just one sip of any AL and i'm back to square one.
It's really nice to hear you have a supportive wife, bless her! Do it for the both of you!
Instead of drinking late afternoon, why don't you and your wife take a nice long walk together, it's great for the body, a nice bit of excercise, it's great for spening time with the mrs and it'll keep you away from drink. Change your routine completely! You say, later afternoon is when you drink, get out, keep busy and it should help. Funny how we find ourself in a time rut.
                      Good luck! Keep posting!

Sick and Tired of being Sick and Tired!

I am back today and starting on Day 1 again. Caved in late in the afternoon once again and am feeling pretty crappy about myself again this morning.

I changed some things that to most should have been done before. I actually poured out all the beer leftover this morning. I used to walk in the mornings and always felt good. I will now do my walking in the late afternoons. Some things are just so obvious that I can't believe I have been so blind.

I ordered the NIFAR stuff last week after hearing it advertised on the radio. It is supposed to be delivered today so will incorporate that with MYO, my new attitude, and all the support from folks here.

I will be onsite here from time to time today to check in.

                        :thanks:
