I have no idea how to fix it
Hey Bluz,
Are you a muso?...Me too...... It's hard, and this takes a commitment on your part obviously. Have you ever been alcohol free (AF) before? If so, you'll have some idea. Many folks here recommend downloading the MWO book, and taking the supplements it suggests. I haven't done either, but there are many ways to tackle this problem. Have you spoken to a doctor who has knowledge of, or specialises in addictions? Your doctor? Have a read of the meds thread here too. It has lots of info, and member's experiences taking different meds to help in the fight. The 'toolbox' thread in 'monthly abstinence forums' has great info, and ideas to help stay off the grog. Read lot's here, and get yourself a plan. A plan has to work for you, so customise one, (like you may do a guitar!). An understanding doctor, or medical professional, might be a good first step. Best wishes on your journey. It is well worth your time and effort!

Guitarista .... you probably know the drill. A bottle of Jack to the left, a pack of Camels to the right, a instrument in your lap. I'm good to go.
I have just gotten the supplements, tapes, meds are yet to arrive. I just don't know how to unravel my head.sigpic

Hi Blutzgar,
Downloading and reading the MWO book will help unravel your head, honestly.
You need to make a good solid plan for yourself, one you can commit to and stick with.
I did and now I'm nearly 8 weeks AF.
You can do it too.
All the best,

Hey Bluz - I have to agree with you about AA. I went for the first time a couple weeks ago, and instead of feeling hopeful and/or optimistic... I came away feeling Depressed!! Haven't been back. I'm glad it works for some people, tho...
I like Cab's idea of writing a song... Just change AL into a woman's name & tell what a hold she has on you!! And how you're gonna shake her off!Sometimes you have to take the leap and build your wings on the way down... Anais Nin

I have no idea how to fix it
My only experience with AA was about 25 years ago - I was a student taking, of all things, an Alcohol Awareness course. We were given an assignment to attend one meeting then write about it.
I too found it a totally depressing event, really felt sorry for the people who were actually there needing help. There was no sense of hope in the room, no positive vibes whatsoever.
Many people have found success with AA, that's wonderful. I just don't think it's the right environment for everyone. I thrive in a brighter, happier, positive environment as I'm sure a lot of people do.
If you hang in here you will feel nurtured. It's much easier to grow and change in a warm, encouraging environment.
Hey, think about writing that song...............make sure it has a positive ending!!AF since 03/26/09

I have no idea how to fix it
Hi Bluz,
I am now starting my sixth day AL...would never have thought I would be here six weeks ago. It is feeling damn good. I have been hanging out with musicians most of my life. Totally know what you mean about the bottle of "something" and the ciggies and the music. It is a combo that seems to come up a lot. It doesn't HAVE to! I have watched a number of my fave musicians stop the drinking and their music has gotten SO much better. Do write a song...that is a great idea. Feel the feelings and put them into your music. I am an artist and I am putting the stuff I am feeling right now into my art and my writing. I am pouring these feelings out onto paper and it helps a LOT.
You can do it.....this place is such a tremendous and positive help. I agree about what a downer AA can be for many. I think it depends on the meeting you find, of course. If I can help ever....please feel free to contact me via here. Keep posting and keep not drinking! I have reached a point where I am so happy to be at almost a week AF....that I simply want to keep going and see how it feels to be at two weeks AF and then a month and then...who knows?
I hung out with friends who are putting together a new R&B band with this amazing older black vocalist yesterday...no alcohol involved in the day. A range of ages in the band. It was a blast and I didn't feel that I needed a beer to enjoy the experience. Too cool!
Take care!
Namaste,
Kathryn
PS. I found reading Allen Carr's book on The Easy Way to Quit Drinking...something like that?...really helped shit my view of drinking. I found a free version to read on-line that made me think about alcohol in a totally different light...like the poison it is to our precious bodies/minds. It has helped keep me on track. I think the supplements and eating well, drinking tons of water with lemon is also helping. I want to get the hyno cds, too. This forum is a complete life-saver. I love filling out the drinktracker as those 0 days add up.
