    DMac,

Your nerves are on overdrive without the AL,so you will feel shakey, shivery, all kinds of stuff. But it will pass; your body is detoxing, which is the good news! It's not fun, but once you get to the other side, it's great. And I agree, lots of water, distractions and getting outdoors is a big help. Hopefully the valerian will help you sleep tonight-I find melatonin to work very well.

    Hang in there!

Thanks for the suggestions, advice, and well wishes. The distraction thing was smart...I found a few things to do. I think I was focusing on it so much that I was making myself feel worse. I find myself feeling a lot better all ready.

I may try the hot bath...cause I was doing a couple of activities and started to sweat...and it felt sort of good. Is it possible to sweat it out? I've heard people use that expression before.

Anyway...I don't think this is gonna be as bad as I thought originally.

Hot baths, saunas, are perfect ways to detox.

          Hi D,
You are doing great just to get to the point of making the decision to go thru this....I too had started day and morning drinking before stopping. I was expecting to go thru a lot but really had a pretty easy time of it. I was shaky for several days and some spacey times as you describe, but not too bad overall. I wish the best for you and that this time speeds by. As I get farther away from the early days I get more and more grateful for my health today. We'll be talking again, I'm sure. Krigs

            Hi Dmac
I just wanted to welcome you. I see that my girls are taking good care of you. Hang tough. Withdrawal sucks and it gets worse every time. You never have to do this again.

Once I mowed the grass. The vibrating of the mower was an override of the shakes plus I I got to use it to stablilze myself like a walker and it got rid of my anxiety attack as well. Distraction really is key and if it involves exercise, all the better. Stay with it!

Thanks again to all who have responded...sometimes it's helpful to know other people have been through similar things.

Luckily this hasn't been as bad as I anticipated. I think the Valerian helped a lot once it kicked in. I don't have that anxiety feeling anymore....just feeling tired and run down and warm.

I'll probably be lying in bed soon, sweating, and tossing and turning....but I've got some radio programs on mp3 and I'll just listen to them till I fall asleep. But overall this hasn't been so bad this time, luckily...I'm glad I stopped when did and I didn't let it get to a point where it would have been worse.

Anyways...I'm definitely done with drinking...at least for the near future. Hopefully posting here will help keep me motivated. Thanks to you all for listening.

                  ditto what Seacailin said.

Dmac I'm a bit of a pro at detoxing after abusing myself terribly for so many years.

first and foremost stay calm. as you've noticed your mind will make this bigger than it already is.

keep a fan near by to accommodate for hot/cold spells.

                  supplements that help a lot:

Vit C 1,000mg twice per day

Vit B1 (thiamine) at least 250mg twice per day

Magnesium 250mg twice per day (this may give you the runs but helps with the nerves)

those will be on top of whatever multi vitamin you are taking.

and of course as much water as you can comfortably drink.

try to avoid stimulants like caffeine and sugar

that's it in a nutshell, feel free to PM me if I can assist further.

Sit quietly-breath in and out thru your nose. Play some relaxing music. Try some milk and cookies. Just keep trying

I keep around the forces of nature and my senses to distract and it just takes my body and mind off the misery. Drinking Valerian is great, as is Skullcap. Peppermint and Chamomile are gentle in their soothing process.

I found during the worse moments of chills and shakes I would hit the bathtub and turn the water on its highest force and let it hit my skin. I use tiger balm on my pulse points close to my nose and the menthol aroma was a diversion.

I empathize with the sweating being a sorce of comfort, because I believe my spirit knew it meant the alcohol wanted out.
I share that I have the withdrawls from hell. It baffles me when I see myself going on a round the clock binge because I guzzle it with tears knowing this is going to bad and get ugly.
As someone in AA told me "It is what we do". It is what it does, it commands to dominate over our reasoning.
Listen elsewhere. Think in that beautiful imagination of yours what a beauty your existence is going to be. Even one day for me is light years away from the abstract twist it renders my life.

Rest, be loved, find relief, know a passing is a promise.

                        Your in my good thoughts~

Thanks everyone who's posted...I'm doing good now. The worst is over. Last night was rough, I woke up several times soaking wet from sweat and freezing cold. I got about 5 hours of constantly interrupted sleep. Now I'm just extremely exhausted, but I feel good that the worst of the mental and physical nervousness is gone. I'm hoping tonight to really crash hard, get a lot of good sleep, and by tomorrow be all good to get back on track to living a somewhat normal life.

Thanks for all the support. I'm not going to do that again...it's so stupid.

It is such a relief to hear you are passing through the nightmare of the withdrawl experience.
