    30 Days AF - Anyone

Hello all you 30'ers, I am just checking in and just realised that I have been short changing myself. Counted on my fingers, toes and the days on an actual calendar and I am on day 15 not 14! Woo-hoo, on wonder I feel so good!
Anyway, enough chin wag, got work to do....oh and other MWO topics to look at!
Regards to all you strong willed people, Grim.

Ronnie, I so hear you, when I first started MWO I had every intention to moderate, and have since changed my tune, so we are doing this AF thing together, and I'm in for good too! :goodjob:

Welcome, hdb. I am on Day 2 (again). Most people don?t just fly right through their first try from drinking heavily to abstinence. You learn what works and what doesn?t. If you ask some of the folks who have been around a long time, they can give you a lot of sound advice. I have never been as wrecked at I was when I first came here; I could not even post a peep for the first several days of withdrawal. I was completely demoralized. With the tools I have been able to string a few days together after many years of not a single one, and then when I do drink, I don?t embrace it as I once did, each time I drink far less and put it away far sooner. What I seek is not there. I hope to complete this 30 days with you ODAT. Love, Ladybird.
              may we be well

                Hello hdb, welcome!
As Ladybird said, there is a lot of very sage advice to be taken in here on MWO. Best of luck and strength to you, before you know it you will be at 30 days and then maybe 60 would be a darned nice target. With you all the way, as are so many others!
                Regards Grim.

Thanks lady and grim and well done with you A/F days! I go away in a week which I am really worried about - I have never been away and not had a drink, well since I was 18 that is and now I am 37. I intend to look forward not backwards though. Lets do this together eh?

You are right, hdb. Don’t try this alone and don’t stop until you find your way out. Keep coming back no matter what, it is different for everybody. Breathe. I am getting glimpses of life as a non drinker since I have joined here and have yet to be disappointed. It is better than I imagined. ODAT. Love, Ladybird.

Great words of advice and so glad to see so many trying for 30 days.

                      Yay!!

I stayed sober yesterday and I will stay sober today. 30 days will go by before we know it.

As far is trying and failing. I have been doing that for years. I refuse to give up.

I do know that I went from an everyday, all day drinker, to a binger off and on.

The binge drinking is just as bad but at least I have had periods of sobriety that I would not have had without MWO and trying.

One of my dearest friends here, who is no longer with us, just kept telling me, Cindi, you only fail if you quit trying. I took his words to heart. I watched him fail many times before he got sober. He had over a year of sobriety before he was killed by a drunk driver.

His name was MDBiker, and he signed all his posts as Bear. He was our loving Papa Bear.

Several long term abstainers here have gone through exactly what I have. It took them years to quit, but many are quit now and have several years under their belt.

Just keep your eye on the prize, sobriety, health, happiness. You will continue to want to get there and try as long as you know your life will be better sober.

                      I know mine will.

                      Love,
                      Cindi

Thank you, Cindi, for your encouragement and telling us about your Papa Bear, MDBiker. I am glad his posts endure, what a sweetheart. I hope people are doing well and if you are not still on this thread, I hope you are on another with similar intent; there are lots of days in left in July and you don’t have get all of them AF. It’s all part of the process. Don’t stop trying. Had a hard, hard evening; didn’t drink only because I was acutely aware it would make things worse. At least I think I am getting that part of it! Love, Ladybird
