"Success is a journey, not a destination."
          --Ben Sweetland
Good morning, Jammers! This quote helped me today as I pondered (with regret) my slips earlier this month. I have decided I need to stop focusing on counting days. I think I need to focus on each single day and just let them gather behind me. I can't have a target of "30", "60", or "90" as that seems to be holding the door open a crack that once those days hit, I'm done with this process. I know it's great to reach these milestones, but for me, I cannot set them as goals. Does that make any sense to anyone?

OK, as wine was my poison of choice, here is a favorite song of mine on the subject that I thought I would share:

Hey Moo! You are doing great! Are those herefords in your avatar? Mr. Dill and I raise black angus.

ronnie, you were just getting up (hang over free) as I was going to bed (sober)! I don't know if I'll ever get my mind around that whole time thing. But I can get it around the whole AF thing!:H

lav, are you under the clouds, too? I think we might be sending some rain your way today. I woke up to a light rain and radar shows more off to our west. I had to go outside to let the dogs out of the barn in the rain, but it was nice. Everything is nice AF! I can recall doing the same simple thing hung over many many times.

New Beginning (NB), I have frequent difficulty getting to sleep. I take valerian and melatonin.

          Have a great day, Jammers!
          Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Hey July Jammers! Approaching day 7 here and feeling great and clearheaded for a change. I'm not saying it's easy though. I've had the evil thoughts enter into my head now and again but have been successful in pushing them away.
Dill: I've been taking melatonin and it has helped so much! Thank you!
Sober success to all of you!
            Love

              Good morning Jammers,

Ronnie, congrats on 22 days! You're doing great Don't let those kids wear you out, ha ha.

Dill, the clouds are still hanging overhead. Seems that everyone around us had rain yesterday, we stayed dry. There's also fog out there today, strange. Dill, I'm right there with you, doing everyday things without a hangover is simple, a pleasure! Don't worry about counting AF days, they just pile up on their own

Hi Moo, hi NB, hope you are both well.

Wishing everyone a great AF day.
              AF since 03/26/09

Hi guys - went AWOL for a while, but am still in the battle, taking it ODAT. I had my sister in town and did rather poorly on the wine front, and am paying for it with allergic-type reactions. Her hubby passed through town last night, and I didn't know until mid morning at work and didn't get home until almost 7 (dragon boat race practice after work), so I didn't make any supper or anything for him. Feel kinda badly about that, AND had to go to bed early as I was so tired. But, like so many of us, sleep tend to elude me alot, even with the antihistamine, so not the greatest rest. Ah well - at least I am hangover free, right????

Dill - I agree with you 100% about the counting days. Always, when I've done 30day, then when it is over, it is like I am allowed to drink again! I did what I set out to do, and now it is over, so bring on the wine. Well - that's not a very good thing, seeing as I tend to lose control when confronted with a bottle of wine, which BF always seems so willing to provide!!

Ronnie - you have been pretty busy lately!!!! It's birthday season, yes? Congrats on your 22 days AF in July - you are doing so great!

Lav - hope it clears up for you!!! The rain is wonderful for the garden, but terrible for the old sun tan!!! It is beautiful and sunny today. I wanted to go for a lunch run, but it is a bit too hot and it is almost 12:30 and a bit late for that. I shall go tonight, with my little doggie!!!

MND - sleep can be a real problem, and I'm happy to hear the melatonin is helping you. It did nothing for me - nothing seems to, except prescription sleep aids (my sister and a friend have given me some, that I very infrequently give in and take). However, i did find that after a couple weeks AF, thing definitely improve as your body gets used to falling asleep, rather than passing out!!!!!

                Hi to everyone else.
Must run - very busy at work, trying to finish stuff up before I go on holidays. After today, only 5 more work days and I am free for a bit. But first, muchos milling and baking!!!!

                        July Jamboree

Deep dark overcast and gloomy here in Ohio. It was hard to get going this morning!

The Potter movie was excellent! Of course, I say that as a die hard fan of the books and movies, so I'm not objective. But it was really well done. I don't see this film as a children's film though. I'm old fashioned perhaps, but really it was dark and scary and sad. The Potter series started out as a children's series, but it ended up as a young adult series. IMO.

Peanut, I missed you. You sound super busy and like you might not be taking good care of yourself. Be careful! :l As far as sleep: well, we all know that alc helps us go to sleep, but that it disturbs sleep afterwards. But, Pnut, did you know antihistamines can do the same? I had a super fast ventricular tachycardia episode a few years back that scared the bejeezuz out of me. Thought I was having a heart attack and I rushed to the ER. It was after a night of drinking and taking antihistamines to sleep and then coffee for breakfast. My doctor told me that antihistamines act as a stimulant, as does alc.

About counting days: I have decided to stop that, but I will keep track of them periodically. I read an article that said that the area of the brain that is responsible for reasoning and decision making (frontal) starts to improve functioning after 3 months of abstinence. Not drinking is a conscious decision that is made in the frontal lobe. That area needs time to "re-wire" itself, and it appears from studies that 90 days is where you start to see a turning point. It was a good article, and if anyone would like to read it, I'll see if I can find the link.

Lav, ronnie, MNB, Moo and anyone else, have a wonderful AF day!

                          July Jamboree

                          Good evening everyone,

Dill, thanks for sending the rain!! Wow, I drove thru a wall of water today. I saw a special weather statement on TV a little while ago that said we're having 'tropical' type rain, geez! My Greater Swiss Mountain dog just located a large 10" snapping turtle in the backyard. I guess the rain drove it out into the open. Mr Lav just carefully picked it up and walked it back toward the creek that runs about 1/4 mile behind our house

MNB, congrats on 7 days, you rock!!! Be happy and proud.

Opal, keep pushing those nasty thoughts right out of your head. It's just Junkie Thinking and we all subject to it. I had another smoking dream last night............I swear, I wake up feeling guilty and a little PO'd. I have 65 NF days today, I'm not about to mess up now!

Hi Pnut, hope you are well.

Dill, your comment about antihistamines and the potential dangers they pose is right on. We all tend to think OTCs are harmless but they can be sneaky. An episode of SVT will scare the crap out of anyone!!! Mixing Rx drugs and alcohol scares me half to death. Two years ago I was on an overnight flight to Europe with my sister-in-law when I observed her pop a Rx sleeping pill, then pour down 4 drinks.............I was really upset with her and didn't drink myself, I just sat awake the entire flight watching her to make sure she was still breathing. That was one seriously careless & stupid move on her part. We arrived in Amsterdam alive & well but I really read her the riot act!

I'll shut up now, have a good evening

                            Hello Jammers,
Has time speeded up over the summer or is it just me? Only one more week of July left - when did that happen? I haven't even done anything big or important, just lots of little chores. The latest one is trying to figure out what I no longer wear and packing the clothes up for charity. My gardening career at my friends' house is a bit of a shambles with all the rain we've had. Yesterday I stopped by to water their plants after a dry day and of course it rained an hour later. They have a tiny pond. I'll take a look next time to see if I can find a turtle, Lav. Opal, please tell us your Dublin highlights. I'd love to visit some time, I've never been to Ireland. Thanks for the Potter recommendation, Dill, it's on my list.
                            Happy weekend everybody.

July has gone haywire for me as it was my birthday and I had 3 separate celebrations ...what a lucky girl I am! Anyway the last one was last night and so I'm coming back to jam with you for the rest of July.
Well done everyone for keeping up the good work, I'm back on track now - no excuses just a desire to be AF again.

                                TGIF!!!

Dill, what's a ventricular tachycardia episode?? Sounds heart related and frightening!! Interesting about the antihistamines though - they have always knocked me out in an unpleasant sort of way. Had to do it though, as I felt those nasty hives coming on. And I didn't drink any AL with them - I was AF. I don't like doing that either, mixing drugs and meds - not a good idea. I have a friend who is on all kinds of meds, for physical problems and also anti-depressants, plus she takes sleeping pills at night, AND drinks beer like a crazy lady!!! Last conference we went to, after being out drinking beer/wine, she offered me a sleeping pill - I couldn't help but comment about taking them after drinking, but she wasn't concerned. I'd be afraid I wouldn't wake up!!!!!!

Hey Lav - don't get swept away in all that rain. The weather is really weird these days here too. It is so freaking windy this year, but we are having some nice warm days. The spring was so cool - I doubt I will get any cucumbers out of my garden this year!!

Hi Sooty, Pamina, Opal, Ronnie, Moo and everybody else.
I need to be up really early tomorrow - Dragon Boat races. I ripped off half my thumb nail at the practice yesterday. Hurts like hell!!!!

AF weekend looming! Best to everybody in reaching your goals.
