My story..can I ask for your help
Welcome Timpin we have all been there. I drank 2 bottles of wine most days too. Mostly started late afternoon till evening and fall in to bed. I did get hangovers and some were worse than others. Usually feeling very tired and gettin the shakes. I been slipping up too much lately but i keep trying. I tried moderating in the past and would switch from wine to light cider but always ended back to square one. Keep posting and reading here there is lots of advice and it helps knowing you are no talone struggling. My last bender left me sick for 2 days so tomorrow will be day 3. :welcome:

My story..can I ask for your help
Hi everyone..I did two bottles of wine last night and fell into bed. I woke up this morning with that aching feeling all over. Can't remember saying goodnight to my wife but I do remember waking up in the middle of the night as always and then having problems getting back to sleep. It took me an hour to start to function. I though..to hell with this and decided not to have a drink today...or any other day for that matter so I am now off to bed having not touched a drink today and feeling great ! It's over a year since I tried it..and I don't even have a craving at present. I know it's going to be one day at a time but if I hadn't found this forum, I would be drunk by now. I'll keep you informed, but take heart those of you who think you can't go a day without a drink..you can ! I am looking forward to the challange of beating AL once and for all.

My story..can I ask for your help
Heya Timpin- welcome aboard. Ive been AF (alcohol free) for about 5 months, and when I quit I did 3-day chemical detox, which is what I would advocate if you can afford the time, not to mention explaining to folks where you are. I've tried 12-step, but like a lot of other folks, MWO and some old fashioned persistence has helped me the most. Im not gonna bash 12-step or similar programs, but never forget that you're not powerless over anything- having made the (tough) decision to change your life shows that you're already about assuming control and running things your way. So best of luck to you. All here will help out as much as they can/you need.

Timpin, after rereading some of the posts. i want to make sure that if you can that you seak medical help on your detox. if not there are great posts on tapering down. the medical profession is limited in their knowledge but i have also found that if you go armed with informationthey can be helpful. anyway goodluck

I also think the "don't stop drinking immediately" from the Dr is a catch all for themselves. I used it to actually give me a reason not to stop!
Sometimes I've needed librium, other times not. It's about common sense but the longer you keep drinking the worse it will get - and shakes aren't nice.If you do decide to stop at home, make sure you have the contact number of someone who can help if needed. Another way is to make an appointment for the next day, have your last drink the night before and see how you feel.
This worked for me earlier this year when I did need something.

My story..can I ask for your help
Hi All
Well, approaching the end of day 2. I wok this morning without any aches and with a clear head. Went to breakfast in the Hotel and felt sociable ! I have felt good all day and looked forward to getting home and NOT drinking ! I am sat here drinking water and using this site as the guidance that I need. I know that I have not beaten alcohol and I know that I never will, which is why I am taking it one day and one step at a time.
I was originally intending to stop next week after I had chance to read the book My Way out and also when my Kudza Recovery arrives, however I decided to stop on Monday morning simply because it was my daughters birthday..she has worried about me for a long time now, so I reasoned if I chose that date, it would be even more important that I try even harder not to have that drink of evil alcohol. If I drink, I let her down as well as myself. I am also thinking to myself that the trigger is a sip of the very first drink. Take one mouthful and all is lost and I have to go through all the regrets and starting all over again. I am really looking forward to the weekend, because I will be in the company of many drinkers around me. I won't waiver and look forward to the challenge of teasing the gremlins in my head that will be urging me to take that one sip that would put me back to square one. So rather than run away from Alcohol, I am going to challenge it head on and take it on and beat it ! Wish me luck..I'll keep you informed.

My story..can I ask for your help
Timpin, great job on finishing day 2. I am on day 10 and am beginning to experience what it feels like to feel good. I, however, have drank way too much for decades, but not every day, and boy do I get hangovers. They seem to be getting worse so I am planning on quitting now and forever. I have found this site to be inspirational as I read about others who struggle also. Good luck to you and enjoy your daughter's birthday. My daughter has worried about me for a long time too and this time asked me to please get some help. Can't say I blame her. She has seen her mother crocked way too many times! And yes, your daughter's concern is a great motivator....

Hi Guys..thanks for the good wishes and Prancy well done on achieving day 10..one day one hour at a time. I keep thinking of that trigger...it's the first drink that does the damage so avoid it ! I got through day 3 with no problems and looking forward to going to bed in a few minutes and sleeping well.Waking with no aching and regret. Looking forward to the weekend now when I'm surrounded by drinkers and watching them when AL starts to catch up with them and watching their reactions. I'll be sober !
Catch up soon

My story..can I ask for your help
Hi Timpin, I am just staring this journey as well. Giving up wine is going to be hard for me too and I know that I need support to stop the cravings. I got a lot of hope when I read the book and suggest reading it. Also, I just stated the nutitional supplements and think they are helping with the cravings! Get help, try new things (supplements, exerecise, etc) and stay connected with others. Life is precious and you are worth making a positive change in your life!

My story..can I ask for your help
Hi all
It's good to hear from all of my new friends on here. I'm pleased to report that day 4 has gone well and not even a craving ! However I realise that old man AL is round the corner just waiting to pounce when the right moment comes ! I'm sitting here and looking at a fridge full of beer and cider and it's giving me a real kick by just looking at it whilst I sip my low calorie 7up. I refuse to move it from the fridge on principal. Why should I ? It's my house and I'll move it when I am ready to do so ! I won't be back here until Sunday as I am going away for the weekend, in the presence of boozy friends, although I will have my wife with me for support. If I am asked why I am not drinking, I'll tell them exactly why ! I'll be back here Sunday which will be day 7 for me..and I'll give you the report. In the meantime thanks to you all for the great support in particular National who was the first person I spoke to on this site. You gave me the inspiration. Let's keep it up ! regards...Tim
