First Time I ask for guidance

    Hello,

    My routine:

    tape the news every night

    walk the dogs at 7pm

Watch the news with a glass of wine

Normally, consume a 1.5 leter bottle every night

Stay asleep, but sleep is not restful

Am now getting blotted and fat

    Am tired all the time

This has been going on for about 3 years

A couple of times I did not drink and felt wonderful the next day.

But, alas, I like my routine

    Please talk to me.

      Hi boDork,
I thought I liked getting drunk every night unil the next morning....every 'next morning' I wanted to change, but I couldn't for so long. Then I had to. I was in such a mess. I'm doing OK now and things are looking up again. It took a few tweaks to my routine to find the right balance, but I think Ihave found it now.

Hello Bo and Oks. Welcome! Many people have been exactly where you are, including myself, so we understand your nightly routine and its allure, firsthand. (BTW, I was surprised at how many of us were wine drinkers!) Please browse the forums here -- take a look around -- and see if anything resonates with you. Also, the MWO book is a great place to start.

If you're looking for someone to tell you that it's time for you to quit drinking because your "sleep is not restful," you're "now getting blotted and fat," and you are "tired all the time," then it sounds like you just did that for yourself! No one else can really tell you it's time, anyway. Only you have that answer, and you may need to work to uncover it. I will say that's a fair amount of vino you're knocking back every night. Are you worried that you can't get to sleep without it? Or, do you drink because you're bored (and can't imagine what you'd do otherwise) or anxious?

I've read many stories about how people get to 'rock bottom' and experience DUIs, health issues, and ruined careers, homes, & relationships. It's not pretty. My sincere wish for you is that "your time" to quit is before any of that horror happens to you.

First Time I ask for guidance

          Hi, Bodork

My routine since May 31st, 09:

drink (usually) a bottle + 1/2 of wine (alone in isolation); sleep (getting up to drink a ton of water often before morning); proceed with the next day, feeling bloated and "yucky" about how I looked and concerned about harm to my health.

Now I am, as of this evening, 40 days AF, with the support of MWO (the book), the recommended supplements suggested there for reduced cravings, and a renewed focus upon good nutrition and exercise.

Welcome to this site. I hope you find what you are yearning for, so you may help-yourself-help-yourself!

          Best to you. :welcome: Macbarry

              Mcbarry,
Did you ever wake up early in the morning with anxiety, not being able to go back to sleep, feeling awfull and hating yourself? Or passing out in your clothes, face unwashed and teeth unbrushed?
Throwing up in the morning, or feeling nausea?
This was part of my routine as well. I liked my wine too, but the price was high. I am not missing the ugly parts and I try not to dwell on the first two hours of wine induced relaxation.
Welcome to the site; there is lots to learn from here!

Hi Bo - Although my routine is different... I understand how that goes.

One thing you didn't mention in your routine is: do you eat dinner?

I've kind of been like a broken record on this, but since it's worked for me, I feel it's good to share. And it's a pretty simple thing: if I eat a decent meal, I don't want to drink!! (Not only because I'm full, but because I know that if I drink on a full stomach, I won't get a buzz - sad to admit...)

I see with myself that I've often mistaken Hunger for wanting to drink. Although there are definitely other "reasons" I want to drink, this one pops up quite frequently.

I am so glad you brought it up. The calories from wine are so much more rewarding to your sick brain, that it will tell you not to eat, but to drink. Mine did. Sometimes, the stomach would scream and demand food so I would have dinner, but the brain is so much more powerfull. And, yes, the wine does not taste as good after eating.
Strangely enough, I love to cook, so I wold have three dishes going on in the kitchen when buzzed, but rarely would be sober enough to have appetite to eat what I cooked.
Food is so important. I read somewhere that nearly all alcoholics are hyperglacimic (sp?)
ie. suffer from low blood sugar
