Its Sunday Reach Out and Help Someone

I have a girlfriend from Jr. High and High School who I lost conttact with (we were joined at the hip in school). Anyway a few months ago I ran into her at an AA function, it turns out she is in the program too. After a couple of months of talking to each other we again lost touch. We are friends on facebook and through facebook i learned that her 17 year old son was in a major car accident and is in a coma with brain damage and is blind. this happened july 1st. i didnt have her phone number so i went to a fund raiser they were having for him and also went to the hospital. there i ran into her mother in law and gave her a card to give to my friend. i got a call from her last night. she doesnt leave her son's side at all but she was reaching out because she needs a friend. she is fairly new to sobriety and is really struggling. im fairly new to sobriety as well but have been very active in AA. in her voice i heard gratitude for me driving all the way to the hospital to see there.

I have a couple of reasons for bringing this up. first her son was drinking and driving. he is only 17 and will probably not ever be the same if he lives through this. how many of us adults have a history of drinking and driving. id like everyone to make a pledge not to do it again. second i almost didnt go to the hospital. i felt a little uncomfortable because we had not been in contact very much. something told me to go and make sure she got a card with a note about how much i care. i think that meant the world to her. if you have a chance to reach out and be kind to someone today...please do it.

Gyco, how many times did i drink and drive and got lucky to only be caught once. however that one time may have saved a life or two because i stopped after i got caught.

          Hi Cacky,

You are a kind soul and I think it is so wonderful that you went to help your friend by being there for her son. We forget too often how much some one can help and make your day by doing just one little act of kindness - often we think of these things after its too late.

You have my pledge. 100% - I refuse to ever drink and drive.

          Take care Cacky.
Every day is a day to start over and remember that I am powerless over my addiction. I will no longer give the BEAST any power over me - he can go straight to hell.
