How long does campral take to work in reducing cravings?

Hello...I've also been prescribed Campral. I have read and from experience with it it takes about 3-5 days to kick in. But you can't drink in those 3-5 days or it really doesn't work and defeats the purpose. Also, I noticed you really need to take it on time. When I was taking it religiously I would notice I was getting cravings and ready to cave but then I remembered I wasn't taking the Campral in time. I am presently 6 days sober. While the campral doesn't make the constant thinking and craziness in my head. It does help not to crave it so bad. Good luck and stay busy!

Great job with the Campral. If it does not work, try Naltrexone. It's a little more aggressive.
Campral did not work for me at all. Naltrexone did not end up working but helped a bit.
      Baclofen worked for me.
Everyone is different. I think desire helps.

For those who do not respond well to Campral or Naltrexone, a wise choice is to try TOPIRAMATE (Topamax). It has a profound effect in reducing alcohol cravings. I have used it myself with great success. It has also been the subject of recent research regarding alcoholism. The problem is, it's an old medicine and it's off patent - so it's only a few cents per pill. You most likely will not hear about it for use in alcoholism from the TV or your doctor, however your doctor is allowed to prescribe it "off-label" for this use.

Note: I was taking a 50mg dose, twice per day.
