I'm new to this and am scared

Hi I guess I consider myself a functional alcoholic. Well that is if its before 6 pm. I'm just so tired of myself and don't know what to do. I have panic disorder and take anti depressants for it and worry that the medication and supps will interact. Anyone else on these kind of medications?

    Hi Fedup,
Is your goal to quit drinking or to moderate your drinking? Even if your goal is to moderate the sire recommend a 30 days period of abstinence before even trying to moderate. You should go to your doc and get Campral. You can continue to take your medication on Campral. You can google campral and find the website for the medication and also go on the research section of this website (up top on the right). Print out as much info as you can and bring to your doctor. It is very helpful in easing the cravings. There are supplements you can take as well that are also explained on the site but I highly recommend that you get the book that i think is free right now (you can download it for free) look up top where it says CHECK OUT ROBERTA JEWELL'S NEW BLOG! . It explains all the supplements and how they are helpful. You can also go on general Discussion and ask questions because more people go there and you are more liely to be seen. You can also come into chat which is above (see the blue bar?)Good luck! Camper :welcome:
Sunny days, sweeping the, clouds away. On my way, to where the air is sweeeet!!! Can you tell me how to get, how to get to......LOL

      Fedup,

I am on other meds for panic/anxiety/depression. All of these are partially -- if not entirely -- due to drinking.

I'm on Ativan, (which Dr. just told me to stop), Paxil, and now Valium (that's why no more Ativan).

Your doc will know if there will be any interactions. I just saw my doc yesterday and metniooned that as a concern, but he said I'd be fine on the Topamax, but he wants to try the Valium first. I go back in a week or so. But don't worry, your doc will know of any interactions with other meds. Just make sure you take a copy of the Lancet Report on RJ's Research page just in case your doc hasn't seen it.

      Best of Luck.

        Dear Fedup,

Welcome to MWO! Rest assured that you have found the most loving, supportive, understanding, and determined group of individuals around. We WILL figure this drinking thing out if we keep at it. Persistance appears to be the key here. Along with determination, support, and knowledge. OH, and meds.
I'm currently on topa, my 2nd trial of it (long story). It works great to reduce the cravings, but there are some things to consider if you are on other meds. It's your doctor's call. I'm quite certain others have taken antidepressants and topa together, but I am not qualified to prescribe meds!

What I CAN prescribe is a good dose of coming to this website often, getting to know these people, sharing your story, and sticking with the program. Camper's advice about getting the book ASAP is great. It's a real page-turner and eye-opener!

        Best of luck to you!
        Becca

PS:>>>> didn't we have another "fedup" or someone similar a while back...?? are you guys related?:H
