    Hello

    Hello to you all,

I found this site today after deciding I really need to get some support in cutting out drink. I've managed to get it down to weekend drinking most weeks but then I drink far too much! I'm tired and bored with the whole thing, but always find an excuse to get another bottle of wine..

    thanks for reading,

    Denise

    Hello

    Hi Denise and :welcome: .

I was exactly the same - but drank 3-4 bottles on a daily basis, and you are right - it just got BORING, but as you say, there is always that little chap at the back of your mind suggesting that you buy 'just one more bottle'.
At MWO there is a great support community with lots of people's experiences and loads of advice. Some of us abstain completely, and some moderate. You can download Roberta's book for free at the moment - if you go to the top of the page and highlighted in blue it shows - Roberta's Blog. click on that and it will lead you to it. Take a read, it gives brilliant advice on supplements and other experiences. there are also hypno CD's which really help too.
Have a mooch around - you'll find that it's a great community, and we have lotsof fun as well as discussing more serious issues.
I have been abstinent now for 6 days ( after many attempts ) but with the help and support of MWO I know it will work this time.

Good luck and glad you are here. look forward to hearing from you.

    xxxxxx

      Hello

      :welcome: Hi there,
Nice to see someone else from the UK as we have lots of American and Australians onboard but they keep different hours for the chat rooms. Maybe we can hook up there some evening and have a blether. Well done for taking the plunge. and good luck.

            Hello

Another newbie - scared - but so happy to find you

            :new:

            Hi All,

I have spent the better part of the morning researching and ran across this site - I have been reading this site and lurking since around 8:00am CST.

My story - Drank moderately from the time I was 15 until about 8 years ago - then it got pretty heavy. Now it is out of control. 2 bottles of wine a night - but vodka or beer will do in a pinch. My dad died at 52 -On Sept 02, 03'- he was an alcoholic - he had over 30 days sober when he died

Divorced in January from a horrid man. That was my second. I have a wonderful 11 year old son - who is my life. I started dating - I know -WHAT was I thinking a great guy and screwed it up by getting as he called it S&^% faced. He could actually have just one beer and be ok. Yesterday he told me - he did not have the capacity to deal with me or my treatment. Needless to say it is over and I am devestated but I know his words are true and I have known for a long time I was out of control.

            :upset:
I cried for me last night and I ask God for help - I have not cried that hard in years. I have downloaded the book - order the supps and CD's - now I have to figure out how to get the Topa. I think I will go the route of going to a Psych.

Thanks for being here for me this morning - even though you didn't know I was lurking.

              Hello

Hi to you all at MWO!

I found this site a few days ago and am finding it facinating and a source of great hope to hear all these stories. I've never been part of a group or discussion group so this is my first post. I'm detirmined to cut down on drinking and hopefully beoming a 'healthy drinker'. I don't seem to find Roberta Jewwells Blog on my page - could someone please direct me to it?

              Many thanks,
              marina

I'm glad you found this site and I hope you get all the support and advice you want. I've spent some of my day looking around and reading other people's stories. You know this is the internet at its best - a place to reach out to each other.

Sounds like your having a difficult time just now, but you have a plan and thats great!. Let me know how you get on with the book and supplements etc. I haven't got as far as downloading the book yet.

                my thoughts are with you,

                    Hello

                    Welcome fellow brit

                    Hey Denise
good to find a newbie Brit on the site! I'm SW London/ Surrey area. My first time today- the site is impressive don't u think- seems to have a lot of common sense about it- especially about being able to become a social drinker ( my aim) rather than a sad abstinent. Good luck with it and if you want to share anything come back. I find it quite liberating that there are millions of us old soaks out there who all share the same day to day worries / experiences/ failings, so there is no point condemning ourselves about it- it is just a something we have to deal with, just like others may have freckles/ shyness/ ugly/ short/ too poor/ lone/ old etc etc. Sorry I'm rambling!!
Cheers (is that the right 2 sign off here?!)
                    Andy

                      Hello

                      hi denise, texasmom and marina--

it's so good to have new voices here. i'm a newbie myself and every time i read someone else's story, as different as it may be from my own, i feel enriched. i don't have much advice to give because i haven't really started with the program. I just ordered the book, tapes and nutritional supplements and i'm looking forward to receiving them later this week. some people here are trying to moderate and others are abstaining. i'm with the first group and even without the book, etc. just visiting these boards has helped me. over this long holiday weekend (labor day in the u.s.) i drank three glasses of wine over a 12 hour time frame saturday, none yesterday and, so far, none today. so i've had my own small victory.

i look forward to hearing about your victories, great and small.

                      all of my best, eustacia

                          Hello

                          Hello Denise, Andy et all!

I'm also in the UK (west London area) and dI'm also fairly new to this site. I haven't read the book yet but have started to take all the supplements - vitamins and Kudzu. I must say that I'm feeling better and have drank (slightly) less. Ok it's only been a fews days but ones got to be positive!!

Here's a tip: when i asked in my local health food shop ('As Nature Intended', Chiswick) for Kudzu, the guy told me it's the same as Kuzu, which they sell as a Japanese food thickener. This is much cheaper and according to this guy excactly the same thing!! Does anyone know anything more about this ?

All the best & good luck ,
                          Marina

                            Hello

Hello Denise and everyone else! Yep I'm in London as well and pretty new too. Just managed a week completely free of any wine whatsoever (and believe me I was taking days and days off work and getting through 3 or 4 bottles a day - ow!). I tried this programme once before and only lasted 13 days. This time it seems easier and I think its BECAUSE of the Kudzu!! Last time I disregarded the doses and cut the Kudzu right down. This time I'm following it to the letter (and on 25g of topamax) and seem to be fine - if not feeling a little strange about finding things to do with myself other than guzzle. London has SUCH a drinking culture huh? I am originally from New Zealand and have been here 10 years. I would never have got away with my drinking ways if I had been back home.....
Am doing all of the programme except haven't quite got my head round the CDs yet, but know I have to pretty soon. Good luck to all of you. Amelia
                            Amelia

                            Sober since 30/06/10

                              Hello

Have you got the Cd's Amelia?

They tend to send me to sleep - it's the Verry ,,, verryyy relaxed ' thing he says in his soft american accent - it makes me tooo relaxed !!!
                              Snore-land.
I've just ordered a couple of books, one of which was recommended on here,' The easy way to stop drinking' by Allen Carr - the write ups look really good, and the other iscalled 'The Life recovery Bible' has Bible excerpts ( I'm not religious ) but focuses on recovery - that has rave reviews too , Southernbelle suggested this one and there maybe something there that might strike a chord - so - hell - I've quit about 6 times, longest for 4 weeks, then back on to my 4 bottles of wine. I NEED to stop so I'm throwing the towel in now and am going to explore every avenue, and take on board everybody's suggestions.
Are you planning to do mods , or Abs you guys?
I have to Abs - I am not wired up right to do mods. It's ALL or Nowt !!!

Keep in touch... At least we can speak during the day when everyone is in sleepsville !! It livens up here on the chat rooms at about 11 pm and I'm ready for my pj's by then.

                              Good luck girlies XXXXX

                              P/s I'm, on day 7 !!! wahey !!! - oh and Marina - did you find RJ's blog?
