August All Stars - week 4

I'm back!

OK fellow travellers, I need you. The events of the past week were too much for me and I did not remain AF. I am seriously back on board the bus as of today. Here's my ticket!

My poor brother was still in the ICU yesterday, but was maybe getting transferred to a nursing floor last evening or today. He has been through the ringer! He is improving though and after a bout of rehab, he should be on his way back home. The week with him was good because he needed me and I was glad to be there for him, but not good for my sobriety. My routine was blown, I was in a strange city, I was isolated and alone except when with him. Internet was not available. Well, it was, sort of, but only if tapped in to some neighbor's wireless and it was 'unsecured' and I just wasn't comfortable doing it.

I have read some of last weeks thread. Congrats darkie! Wow. And, LBH, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. How long had you had the bird and what kind was it?

And sooty, I'm 57, so I'm not far behind!

August All Stars - week 4

Hi Dill, lovely to see you back with us. Don't be so hard on yourself you've had a really tough time and you coped the best you could - I do hope that your brother continues to make good progress and you can return to normality. You are a good sister.
Well August has been difficult for me for various reasons but my relatives have finally gone and I did have some wine at our farewell dinner last night (despite good intentions)
Lets not beat ourselves up lets just move forwards.
I wonder what our collective ages add up to - must be a couple of hundred years between us all. We should be very wise!

Dill, good to see you back, missed you. Your week was rough, don't be hard on yourself. You're back now, that's what counts. Hope your brother remains on the road to recovery.

Sooty, tough week for you as well. But you did get through and are still with us.

I'm smiling thinking about our collective ages..........we are older than dirt and need to remember to use the wisdom we've collected wisely!

Dill-Glad to see you back with us. You were missed. Hopefully your brother is on the road to recovery and will be home soon. Don't be too hard on yourself. No one really likes change and I think it's especially hard on "us" when our routines get messed up. Jump on board the sober buss...we saved you a set!

Sooty-The same for you, hon. Now your company is gone and you can get back into your AF routine and start piling up those AF days. Then next time you get company, it won't be as big a temptation!! Hang in there.

Lav-It's rained here for 3 of the last 4 days. It was suppose to be nice here today but instead it's cloudy and chilly. This has been a strange summer.

LBH-I'm sorry about the lose of your pet parrot. :i I hope you're doing ok today.

Welcome home Dill. As you settle back into your routine, please know that you were greatly missed and were/are in our thoughts. Thank you for starting our Week Four. It is good have a fresh perspective. Thank you also for asking about my bird. He was an Amazon parrot, not quite twenty-nine, a long time companion. He was such a happy creature, I am focusing on that. Thank you Lav and Lilmea as always. Sooty my dear, we are collectively prehistoric! Have a good day everybody who is here or wants to come along. Dill, Darkie, Ladybirdheart, Lavande, Lilmea, Pamina, SaraH, Opal. Sooty, Sunni, JackiClaire and anyone I missed (I'm really sorry if I missed you, I suck at this).
Managed to stay AF so far, but haven't had any triggers either, so it has been pretty smooth sailing.
Dill hope your brother is feeling better soon. LBH sorry about your parrot, I saw your post last week, but didn't respond, sorry.
Quiet day here, should be more productive, but keep nodding off while trying to get work done. Raining and grey and want to take a nap. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Good to have you back, dillaroony! How is your brother doing now? I hope he continues to improve!

Day 15 here... the little voice speaks up now and then, but I'd rather run around with q-tips in my ears than comply.

August All Stars - week 4

September to Remember AF

I'm not very creative verbally but I like this one. This is the first August I've been able to remember in a while. I'd like to add a "remembered" Sept. as well.

Yesterday was a bad day for me. Just really down and had a bad case of the blues. I don't know why, nothing was wrong. So I did what any recovering alcy would do...I had a large helping of chocolate cake topped with vanilla ice-cream!! Then I went to bed at 8:00 and slept clear through until 6:00 this morning. I'm feeling much better today! It's suppose to be nice, although cool so I plan on getting outside and enjoy the last of summer.

August All Stars - week 4

Hello All Stars,

I am back from my trip, I had the grandsons over last night, we made brownies and ate pizza. Not quite on Granny's diet but the weekends are always a diet nightmare.

I stayed sober in the hotel despite some very strong temptations and I am very proud of myself. This is the first time in a long time I had to loudly say, NO to myself in a long time.

I get to be home this week. It does mean a lot of work, though, and in the past I used to use that as an opportunity to drink during the day (I used waking up as an opportunity to drink, who am I kidding?) to get through the things I hated to do. I didn't do them very well, though.

This week I plan on sticking to a schedule and being organized. I am beginning to work on all the aspects of my life that drinking let me sidestep.

No brown lawns here either, the sound of tractors cutting grass just doesn't stop. It is an odd look for this time of year.

lilmea, I like the sound of September to Remember AF too. Has a nice ring to it

Welcome back Cindi! I've been thinking about the holidays coming in a few months............I will not let them throw me off my plan, no way!! I am grateful, have been grateful these past 5 months and intend to remain that way

No big plans for me today, I see some sunshine out there - think I'll go see what that's all about

High, Stars. Glad you found a way out of the Blues, Lilmea, they can be mean. I am going to make an effort to cherish every minute of this last week in August, good, bad, or confusing. I am accustomed to worrying, planning, regretting, guarding, agitating, fretting, anticipating, recalling, and generally avoiding the moment, and I am going to make myself stop on a regular basis, consciously breathe, and slow my mind way down. I?ll probably give myself a seizure disorder but I?ll be mindful about that too. Love Ladybird.

Cinders, you should be VERY proud of yourself! I am happy for you. I hope someday to be as strong as you.

Lav, I hope you had more sun than we did. Today was gray and gloomy and chilly! What a strange summer this has been.
