Saffy,
Well, we are definitely on the same wavelength. I've read Tolle's The Power of Now (I think that's the correct title). That, and a book called Buddhism Made Simple by Steve Hagen have made me look at life differently. And, just fyi - you may know this but many people don't -- Buddhism is not a religion -- people have tried to make it one by building statues, shrines, etc. but that was not the intent of Buddha. Anyway, I don't know a lot about it but what I've read so far gives me a lot of comfort and perspective.
The main think that's helped me with the philosophy of Tolle (and I think it's very closely related to Buddhism) is the idea that when we keep looking, looking, looking for something that's missing it can almost become pathalogical -- that enjoying or really being in the present gives us a great sense of peace -- WE'RE NOT MISSING OUT ON ANYTHING!! Wayne Dyer too writes in these terms. I can't explain it really well but from what you're reading I know you understand what I'm trying to say. I've just become so much more peaceful in my mind reading about these philosophies and ways of looking at the world.
Another book I plan to buy (maybe you know if it) is The Tao of Sobriety - Helping You Recover From Alcohol and Drug Addiction. I think the basic premise is how alkies are really looking to fill a spiritual void when they drink. I think that's true for me - that I have that void. So, I'm trying to open myself to learning about spirituality.
And, the fact that you're 3.5 mos. AF (CONGRATS!) is just another testament to these teachings being worth stydying!!
I want to thank you for your mum's quote on AL - so true - why even be tempted!? And, thank you so much for chatting about Tolle, etc!
Chook, Bratty and MIE - hope you all are doing well.
Hugs,
Choochie
