Good night all - thanks for the info on Amoryn. LBH, what is the sleep aid that you're talking about? I'm interested in whatever will help with a full night's sleep. Maybe Amoryn too - though the worst anxiety I have is worrying about if a craving will get too far along before I can stop it. I've programmed my phone to 'ding' me every day at around 2 p.m., to remind me to take a Kudzu -- that's all I can think of for now to get a step ahead. Of course the meditation tapes, if I get myself in the habit.

Thanks all for the great food for thought, and hope - I believe in you all. End of day 2 for me - whew!

          Operation October - week one

          Morning All,

:welcome: cyntree. Good fine place you've found here. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Red; I suffered from awful anxiety and panic attacks. I literally couldn't go to the corner shop without a drink under my belt. But with a bit of work with a therapist and giving up AL they've all but gone.

Sooty, Olbas oil is the greatest gift to a cold you can get. You can also get it in bath foam. So a nice steamy bath with a few drops is wonderful for clearing the head.

I'm off to Belfast on the 17th Oct. Scared to death. But I will do this.(already planning outfit)

Lav. Still gazing at your avatar. Yes I know I should get on with the ironing!

Hello to anyone who I've missed. Have a great day.

          Love Jackie xxx

            Just had a thought Sooty,

Maybe we can export Olbas oil and make ridiculous amounts of money and retire to the sun.

Hi Jackie good idea - there's obviously a huge need for it if people can only get Vick vapour rub - hardly in the same league at all!
Are you recovered from your lurgy now?
Red I loved the story about the gutter guards - I do that sort of thing all the time - I think they call it having a senior moment!! Definitely true in my case.
Well I'm going to have another lazy day as I'm supposed to be going out with some old friends this evening so I'm going to try and conserve all my energy!!
              Have a good day everyone
              see you later

                Hey Sooty,

More or less got over the lurgy, but still feeling a bit weak and no real appetite. But each day gets a bit better.

Red's gutters remind me of when we had our conservatory was built and they put the drain pipe at the wrong end. I didn't notice 'til the following day and it stuck right outside the kitchen window! Talk about a senior moment!

                  Operation October - week one

Finding myself-I had hot flashes yesterday too. Off and on all day. It is weird, I get them every so often. If it is hormonal, I wonder if we are more likely to get cravings? I am so relieved I did not drink, I did sleep well and here I am posting at this ungodly hour.

Hey, watch it about the senior moments :H I am only 49. Seriously, I am a blonde and have done stuff like this all my life. I have learned to laugh at myself so it makes my mistakes not a big deal.

I have a busy day ahead of me and I feel capable and competent AF. What a gift, I am so thankful. Everyone, have a productive AF day.:l

                    Operation October - week one

Hi Jackie - I feel quite exhausted, just walking round the house is major effort. I'm taking Covonia for my cough - i mix it with a little hot water (my cousin who's a pharmacist told me to do that) its very soothing on the inflamed tubes. I bet our friends across the pond think we're talking gibberish here - Olbas Oil and Covonia!!!!
Sorry red, definitely not senior at 49 - a mere youngster!
Oh well must try and raise myself to do something, see you later

                      Operation October - week one

                      Noun: lurgy lur-gee
                      Usage: Brit

                      (informal) a bug or illness
                      Derived forms: lurgies

First order of business for me was looking up the definition of 'lurgy'. That's two new things in two days from Miss Sooty. Thank you for expanding my horizens! The above is from WordWeb. Below is a link to a site where one can buy Olbas products in the USA, as I intend to do!

Penn Herb Company On-Line Herb Store Catalog (Sorry to spoil your plans, JC!)

I loved the gutter story, Red! It just goes to show you, stopping drinking doesn't solve everything!:H

Red, Finding, and Cyntee, good job on battling the cravings: especially the strong ones! As they say in AA, Alc is cunning, baffling, powerful.... and patient! Stay on guard and stay strong, everyone. I'm not an AA member, although I've been to a meeting or two. There is a lot of wisdom to be found there.

I bet our friends across the pond think we're talking gibberish here - Olbas Oil and Covonia!!!!
And 'lurgy'! Sooty, I truly love the education!! I especially love the word lurgy and plan to use it at my first available opportunity, which, given it is flu season, should be soon!

Pamina, it sounds to me like you are processing very strong feelings of grief, perhaps in the background of your conscious thought, because you have had too much to take in. Be very gentle with yourself. We are here for you.:l

I woke up in the middle of the night last night with a feeling of dread, thinking that I had been drinking the evening before. I guess that's another form of habit, eh? Anyway, I was so relieved to realize that I hadn't, but the dread subsided slowly. Feeling better this morning!

LBH, Lav, Lil, Peanut, Chops and anyone else who pops (sorry if I missed anyone) in to join us in OO-I (Operation October - week 1), good to see you!

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Lil, Mr. Dill and son are taking the boat out for its maiden voyage today! They are bringing a mechanic along to check things out with them, it being 24 years old, and all. They are going to launch it at Buck Creek State Park.

                          Operation October - week one

Hi Dill I'm so happy to be helping expand your vocabulary - i think lurgy is a very expressive word it sort of sounds like you feel when you've got a cold or flu. It certainly sounds like something you wouldn't want to have!
I looked at that site you found, I wouldn't have believed there were so many Olbas products, I've only ever seen oil here and more recently lozenges which taste absolutely ghastly and I definitely would not recommend.
I hope you don't get the flu and have no need to take any of them!
Good luck with the maiden voyage - are you cracking a bottle of champers onto the side of the boat as she goes into the water or do they only do that the very first time a boat sails?
Whatever I hope you have a successful trip.
And to everyone else a successful day

                            Operation October - week one

What a busy thread this morning. I love it!

Dill-Cravings, I think in the begginning are more physical. But once all the AL and toxins are gone then I think it becomes more emotional/habit. (JMHO) I hope the boat launching goes well! You can always use a bottle of alcohol free "champers" to chistain your boat.

Cyntree, Find, Red-Have you checked out the toolbox thread yet? It's at the top of the monthly absteince section. It has lots of good ideas on how to deal with cravings. Hang in there. You all are doing great.

Sooty-I hope your feeling better soon!

Pam-You've really had a lot to deal with lately. As Dill said, be gentle with yourself.

JC-Making an AF plan for your trip is a great idea. Hope you have a good one.

LHB-Speaking of trips...how are your plans going for your trip? I know you bought a slinky new raincoat.

Lav-I checked out the link you gave us yesterday. I think I'm going to order some of the Amoryn today. I like the idea of it being natural.

Yesterday I just vegged out and didn't do much of anything. I guess I'd better get around today and do something!

                            Have a great day everyone.

LBH, when is your trip? Geez, now I'm starting to feel the need to go somewhere..........anywhere! Too much life on the 'farm' is just too much sometimes, ha ha.

Sooty, I just looked at the link Dill posted about the Olbas manufactuurer here in the US. They're in North Philly, not that far from where I used to live - go figure!!!
