LJ, so glad you are here, and you've got some great people helping to guide you. I don't know if this has been said, but bears repeating; dehydration also causes heart irregularities, so be SURE you stay hydrated. Vitamins and minerals are so important, because, speaking from my own past experience, our drinking depletes our body of everything it needs. Above all, be CAREFUL. Set small goals, change your routine each day, or each hour!, to help you learn new behaviors that don't involve AL. It becomes very much a habit if we continue the same-old-same-old. Stay with us - we're pulling for you.

urgently got to go dry but its dangerous

        Hi LJ -

Today is the beginning of my second week on baclofen, so I do have a little bit of experience to share. But first I have to reiterate what Bright said - "You will never be of any use to your son if you are still drinking." I don't mean to be harsh, but realistically, if you bring your son home before you have made at least some progress with the alcohol, some things that are much more horrible than having him away from you in safe hands could happen.

For example, if he were the only one with you when you had a seizure; or if the side-effects of the baclofen, which are not horrible for most of us but can be very weird and unpredictable, kept you from caring for him appropriately; or, if he came home while you were still drinking so much and then had to go away again - all of these things would be far more traumatic over the course of his life than being away a week or two while you get better.

That said, I can tell you that I had immediate
results from taking baclofen! I knew within an hour after taking the first 10 mg dose that I could get well. Tip is exactly right - if you have already taken a dose, note your experience very carefully.

I have had only one or two glasses of wine a night since the first day I took the bac. Freaking miracle, for me.

But this is important to note: I had de-toxed (long, gruesome story) completely about a month before starting the bac, then was back to drinking an amount I'll never know about for sure because I just don't remember a lot about that time and I was drinking not only mine, but a good friends' wine and vodka, every day.

So your situation is compounded by the reality that your body has to de-tox from years, not a month, and it is impossible to predict what that might mean this time, in these circumstances.

Here's my titration schedule to date:

        10/10/10 for 3 days
        10/20/20 for 2 days
20/20/20 for 4 days (I get a little manic, not somnolent, and had to stay here for a few days to get past wanting a glass of wine in order to counteract.)

Then I added an extra dose/day and took 10/20/20/20 for 3 days, and I've been at 80 mg, 20/20/20/20 for 3 days. It's the weekend now, and a good time to titrate up in case weird things happen, so I'll go to 90 today and see how that goes.

I've been relatively indifferent to alcohol since the day I started, but am a little caught up in the amazement of being able to drink one or two glasses of wine at night and being able to stop without a problem. (I've kept all the empties just so I can enjoy counting them, dividing the number of bottles into the number of days, and realize again how quickly I've come in such a short time!)

So I believe with all my heart and head that you can do this, and do it well and in a way that keeps you and your son safe and on a healing path. Just, please, be very careful, and keep reading and posting so you have the support and the knowledge that will help you get through this.

            LJ,

I apologize if my previous post sounded harsh, but Redthread said it better than I did. I am concerned for your son too and Redthread made some very good, valid points about causing any trauma to your son. All I wanted to say is if he is in a safe stable environment right now, it's best for you to work on detoxing from the Alcohol before bringing him back.

Drink water, eat and sleep and take your meds. Don't put yourself in danger as there are serious withdrawal symptoms.

Do you have a friend who could stay w/ you for a few days? Just to make sure you don't have serious side effects and for support.

Hang in there, check in here when you need. We are all routing for you.

just woke up after taking my first 1/4 tablet, was on sofa and watching TV and went out like a zombie, must admit I had had a glass of wine a short while before I had took the tablet, but I have woken up hungry as hell, got munchies and quickly cooking before it goes away... no cravings for booze yet..! gonna eat and take my doggies out for a walk and then later take the other 1/4 tab and chill on my sofa and hope it stays calm like this...!!! you guys are great, I can't talk to anybody else about this, thx..xxxx

                    LJ,

Yes, exercise is the best! Also, Sheri is right, start getting yourself on a mineral and supplement program. Our bodies have been depleted. You will physically and mentally feel better when you get those things back in your body.

urgently got to go dry but its dangerous

                      Tough times

...and I thought I had it tough. I drank for 26 plus years (every night and was drunk every night) to wake up and drink again (when i could) - I quit 1 time and a "friend' gave me 2 small beers 2 months ago and i started again, but I am now 2 days dry and will make it (the last time I went for over 15 days and could of continued, but thought "I earned this" bad choice on my part)

The things that worked for me (and i was able to get at the local supermart) - I'm no doctor, but it had amazing effects.

                      - Of course my vitamins, and something my grandmother told me about "I laughed at her, but told her I would try it - Its called Acidophilus Plus (the pills have a half Billion Cells per Capsule) - it's good bacteria for your upper and lower intestines "basically, it works the opposite as alcohol does" and lastly, Soymilk "silk has the best tasting - whenever I thought I wanted a drink, I would have soymilk and trust me after that, you will not desire a drink of anything.

Thats my bag of tricks and again, for me, the desire is not really there. I also had panic attacks, seizures of some sort, the shakes shivers, cold sweats everything for the last couple of nights and insomnia but this time my will power has a firmer grip on things.

I remember traveling to the Ukraine and drinking their vodka (I loved it and of course I was hooked on anything i could drink for a very very long time) - My liver is ok or as far as i know and the rest of my body is good (I walk 1 miles and a half a day, and the circulation has adjusted things in a positive way).

                      Vr,

                      Wineilove

I need to stop and WANT to stop, my liver is badly damaged and have heart problems, I keep trying to stop but have very bad side effects and I think if I stop cold turkey it could be dangerous, as I tried before and had epeleptic attacks.. I will have my first test this week and have tried this morning not to drink but am sweating being sick and my heart is racing.
I want to try Bacoflon, how quick will it start to work????
I can't go to the doctor coz I have been in de-tox 3 times and if I ask to go again they will know I have still been drinking and will cause problems to get my son back, I must stop but don't want to die in the process.....

PLEASE anybody got suggestions and tell me about the bacoflon...
                      thanks.

Ohhh Ladyjan - it sounds like you have a Great deal to gain by getting this monster under control.

I don't know about bacloflan, and I (somehow?) have never experienced withdrawals... yet!

So, not much advice here. I just wanted you to know I'm pulling for you!

                        Godspeed.

slowly ate half of my lunch, was difficult to swollow, but at least it's some food, took my dogs out for a walk but felt a bit dizzy, came home and stupidly fancied a drink, am not having wd bad effects but fancy a beer... not had one, just hope I can hold out, probably being out where there are all the bars and seeing people drinking... gonna just hole up at home watch TV and take another bit of baclofon and hopefully fall asleep again and forget about booze..and be able to sleep thru the night without the sweats and sick feeling and shakes and wake up a bit more normal than today coz it was frightning hell this morn
