I'm sorry but I don't know for sure. It has been many years since I took it. But, I do believe that I was told a couple of days. Sorry that I can't be more help.

CeeCee - can I ask how you found My Way Out? We've been having some issues with new people finding us. So, I'm curious what search term you used. Want to make it easier for people that need support.

CeeCe, I've been on Campral myself. I found it a very useful medication, but unfortunately I neglected psychosocial support and ultimately was not able to stay sober. I think it is a good drug. I found that it cut back on a whole slew of obsessive behaviors, not just alcohol. I found myself impulse buying and obsessing over sex less as well. The addiction psychiatrist who prescribed it for me told me to start taking it right away (2 333mg caplets 3x daily), although I've read elsewhere that there should be a few days abstinence before starting it. It is not a medication that needs to be titrated up. It will help offset the symptoms of post-acute withdrawal, and should help somewhat with the insomnia and anxiety that lasts a few weeks to a few months. You won't "feel" it working, but it does.

EDIT: I should also add that if you slip, if you're intention is to keep trying to stay abstinent, keep taking it. However, for me, I got drunk on less alcohol and the morning afters were much worse. It is a maintenance medication for abstinence, not moderation.
