Hi ,
Jackie - weekend was good. Even managed to do an hour's work at home this evening before returning to work tomorrow after the weekend. Never corssed my mind once that I wanted to go out over the weekend because I had a plan in place - having a plan for Saturday & Sunday nights is going to be key for me in the beginning of this process. I spent the last week eating junk food and avoiding the gym. Tomorrow is the return to the gym after a week off and to healthy eating ways.

Sounds like a great plan, Davie! Planning and commitment are a big part of success around here, in my opinion. Big congratulations on your sober weekend - sometimes they're the hardest - but it's great when we realize we can still enjoy our sports sober (as well as stay awake to see the final results! :H). Keep it up - it is nice to see a newbie inspiring other newbies, and makes us longer term folks proud!

Hi All,
Thanks again for the positive comments. Cold, crisp, clear morning here in Dublin this morning when I was going to work - and it felt great. Spent the evening babysitting three of my nephews while their parents worked late - a very regular occurence. So they are inspiration for my next reason (not to).
Reasons not to drink.
1) Absolutely nothing positive comes from me drinking
2) My most difficult times from childhood to adulthood have been as a direct or indirect result of my own or someone elses (father's) alcohol abuse
3) Alcoholism is progressive - I don't want to look back in 1,2,3 or more years to be further along my downward spiral having wasted this opportunity to nip it in the bud while I still can.
4) I have a relationship of fun & mischievnous (spelling?) with all my nieces and nephews and I want dearly to retain this. However I don't ever want them to feel sorry for me or embarassed by me. I want them to always be proud of me and know they can rely on me. One way to achieving this is to stop pissing my life and hard earned money away at the weekends and start to reach my true potential.Comment

Glad you had a good weekend. It's amazing what you can do once you set your mind to it.
We had a really lazy weekend doing bugger all.
Can't believe I actually look forward to the weekend. Just a few short months ago they were just a haze of alcohol.

Ye - its late just in the door from baysitting. Could've posted fromm there but don't really want MWO to pop up on my brother's home PC though I know they'd support me. HI Dave,,,,,,keep thinking of the reasons not to drink. I carry around a photo someone took of me smashed off my bean in Vegas...It was not very flattering and quite embarassing to think anyone saw me this caboodled. When I start thinking about the drink, I pull it out of the purse. To be quite honest, it makes me disgusted w/ myself. Believe it or not, it works quite well.
Find good things you can do and that in and of itself is always a reason not to indulge. I know, I am only one drink away from day one!AF since 2/4/10

Thanks for your comments. Just to be clear I would never be around my nieces or nephews having consumed AL even on the weekends when I would babysit. Babysitting them has always been a way for me to ensure that I don't go to the pub at the weekend. I suppose what I was trying to say was I am planning and making a significant shift in my lifestyle and as my relationship with them is currently very positive I don't want that to change although I am (hopefully) changing.
