November Navigators ~ AF Week Four
hello again navigators, didn't expect to see so many of you here today. Black Friday here refers to the Friday before Christmas when everyone from all the offices and workplaces go to town and get absolutely drunk. Its horrible - there's always trouble and the last couple of years volunteers have been out handing out water to people, they also have ambulances in the town centre to treat people on the spot instead of them needing A+E!!
Dill you are absolutely right Double Ds could put men off - I hadn't thought of that.... oh well back to the drawing board ....we're bound to come up with something fabulous!
We looked at a Renault Modus today - didn't buy it, it takes us ages to make a decision.
We used to have a Honda Accord - twas a lovely car. We're trying to find one that's as eco-friendly as possible - watch this space, on average it takes us about 3 months to make a decision as momentous as this!
Well its raining again and now it has turned very cold - it was dark by 3.30p.m. today, so depressing!
Hope the rest of the day goes well for all of us

RE: 30 days
Aww, thanks friends. I thought I should clarify, I didn't count days but weeks (thus 4 weeks yesterday was not 30 days, but 28 :H). I'm still happy about it and navigating November.
More later...back to work for me in a moment. xx

Sheri-:welcome: I'm glad to see you posting! It looks as if you are still going strong. You will find lots of support here and the gals on this thread are the greatest.
Lodestar-No worries on the count. I did exactly the same thing my first month! :H:
My company is gone and I've even had a short nap. My first af Thanksgiving in 25 years and it couldn't have been nicer.
Now I'm going to spend the rest of the day taking it easy and watching Criminal Minds reruns.AF since 7/26/2009

Evening friends,
OK, feeling kind of lazy now..........I did get some housework done though
lodestar, congrats on your 28-30 days of success! Feels good, doesn't it?
Sheri, welcome, glad you're here! I like your December DRYnamos idea
Lil, good to hear your holiday went well! Funny, I've had a sober Easter, Mother's Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Halloween & now Thanksgiving so far this year. My GOAL is to have a sober Christmas & New Year. Then maybe I'll feel just a little less paranoid
Dill, Sooty, LBH & Everyone......
I'm wishing you a warm & cozy night - I'm lighting another fire for extra coziness!

Welcome Sheri and hello Navvies. Thanks, Dill, for the inspirational video, you came through again. Had an odd day here, started off great and then I went out to feed the wild birds and discovered the second installment and much bigger slaughter of my pond fish. :upset: My ancient bull frog, Spencer, was among the dead/missing as was my huge golden orfe, Wanda, who lived there for fourteen years. My thought a few weeks ago of a clever hunting kitty as an offender was clearly incorrect this time. I went through the day thinking it must be a heron but spoke with a neighbor who found a large raccoon in her shed this year and saw a baby last spring in a tree. I have an "inner city? house where I have never heard of a raccoon but then I also never saw a large owl in my yard until this year and a couple of weeks ago there were seven turkey vultures in a tree nearby. Heavens. Today I bought rolls of welded wire and made a pond top for my three or four remaining scared fish, little ones who could still hide while slowed from hibernation. Not sure if anything will work with a raccoon. So far Nature 12, Ladybird 0. It?s OK in the big picture, our neighborhood is becoming alive, I am not drinking, and nature is good if dispassionate. Later, Lord Bird Heart came home and he did indeed buy himself a new car. A tiny silver Smart Car, ?used? with 4000 miles, it?s perfect! I have loved them since we saw them all over Paris three years ago and it helps balance out the footprint of my truck. Hope the fat raccoon does not carry the new microscopic car off after dark, however. Love, Ladybird.may we be well

Thanks everyone, for the welcome back. Whew - a wonderful Thanksgiving done - Mother, husband, nephew, niece and their 3 children (who have been in town for a week), and me totally calm and AF! How great....although even greater to have all safely back in their respective homes, and me taking the world's longest nap. LBH - about owls - I live in a city center, but close to a mountain preserve, and last night there was an hour-long conversation (3 - 4 AM!) between 2 owls. First ever here in 6 years -- I thought maybe they were congratulating me in their own special way. Hope the car made it throught the night without being carried off by the racoon....
Congrats all, and I'm happy to be dry (ha) and safely on board with you all for the rest of the month while you decide next month's name....I love anything with 'determined' in it!to the light

Cyn, we've missed your posts. So good you're back!I'm happy to be dry (ha) and safely on board with you all
Soots, our Black Friday is nowhere near the same as yours, thank goodness! Ours is just a day for shopping. It's called "black" because it hopefully puts retailers "in the black" as opposed to being "in the red".
LBH, the car sounds perfect, but it may need fencing around it! The pond slaughter sounds like the work of a raccoon. I'm so sorry for your loss. One summer we raised pheasant chicks. We had a murderous fox marauding that summer and we had a very hard time keeping that fox out. They truly are sly. We had to run two strands of electric wire around the cage in the end. We managed to save most of the chicks, thankfully.
Lav, I think I'll get some hot chocolate and curl up next to your fire. It sounds so cozy!Dill

I agree, Cyntree. Anything with even the sense of "determined" is welcome. I shall go with whatever name we have but for me it is important to keep an element of the serious in this thread, particularly as we can always informally lighten it up over time as things settle down, i.e. ?hi all determinators". I originally liked "destination" or ?discovery? but also something with "drill" might be good as it is a process! Dill is good at sorting this out. I think she is a teacher. I'm signing off for now. Enjoy, everybody, the freedom of not drinking no matter what, alcohol will become in our seductive thinking as aversive as it is in reality. Love, Ladybird.may we be well

Lav-I'm just loving these af holidays aren't you? It is so amazing for me to look back over the last year and see all the positive changes in my life sense I've been af. I'm right there with you for a sober Christmas and New Years.
Cyn-Glad to see you back on board. I've missed your little purple avatar. What is that flower anyway?
Dill-I shall leave the new name up to the more poeticly inclined but I do like the idea of having AF in there somewhere.
Hello to Sooty, Finding, Sheri, Red, Chops, Pnut, Lodestar, and all my other shipmates I may have missed.

From the Daily Recovery Readings:
Today I live only in the certainty of the day. Today I know that what worked for me
yesterday will work for me today if I am open to love, truth, honesty and change.
Change is not necessarily "difference" if I see it as part of a process rather than an
event. Yesterday is linked to today, and together they forge tomorrow. The one thing
of which I can be certain is change. The God of Truth is revealed in the change;
the acceptance of this fact is spirituality.
May I continue to grow in the spiritual life by my continued desire to change and be
tolerant.
I continue to be grateful to all here who are helping themselves and each other through this life change.
I'll check in later.Dill

Good morning friends,
Dill, thanks for the reading - words so true! I am grateful for the continued desire to change, we can do this together!
LBH, I live in a rural - farming area now. It's an every day occurance to see a hawk snatching a field mouse for lunch or to walk out to my maibox & notice 4 or 5 turkey vultures perched on my roof - observing, waiting.....We've been lucky so far keeping racoon & fox out of our hen house
We had a small fish pond at our former house & built a cover for it as well. Helped keep out wildlife, neighborhood children & leaves. Sorry for your loss! I've stopped putting our cocatiel out on the deck for some fresh air unless I know we are going to be out there with him. I've watched the hawks buzz the birdcage too many times.
Lil, I think I'm possibly starting to overworry the Christmas Holidays a bit.........I feel some real paranoia moving in. I know that I will stay out of the liquor store, that's not a problem. I can turn down a drink in a social situation, I'm not worried about that. Actually, I'm not sure why I'm worried. Perhaps it's knowing that Christmas Eve will be the anniversary of the last time I made a gigantic ass of myself - what a nightmare!!!! I'm really looking forward to getting through the holidays AF so that I can finally BELIEVE in myself again.........
Greetings to Sooty, Finding, Sheri, Red, Chops, Pnut, Lodestar & everyone who stops in today
I have to finish spiffing up things around here today & do some cooking for tomorrow's BD party for my little buddy Matt. 1 year old already
Wishing everyone a great Saturday!

Good morning all - thanks for the reading, Dill, wonderful food for thought. I'm off to work, but will be thinking of everybody all day - enjoy your leftovers! The most creative recipe I've come across for leftovers (or as we call it 'revotfel' - that's 'leftover' backwards) is Turkey Cranberry Ravioli, or possibly Turkey spinch mushroom crepes.
Lil - I"m not sure of the flower's name -- I'll check it out --
