Hello - Im new. advice needed please !

Hi to anyone reading this .... its my first post.
I stopped drinking four days ago . I was drinking between 80 and 100 units a week - every evening, always on my own and in secret. I know it is killing me slowly, destroying my mind and preventing me from doing more with my life. I am a single mum of three beautiful girls, (who dont know I drink ) Im in need of some support and reassurance.
I feel like poo - headache, no appetite, and when I eat it tastes like cardboard. I cant sleep - although I feel so tired and the worst thing is that I keep crying . Im trying to hold on , Ive done four days, so it has to get easier ?? Does it ??

Hi there MH, welcome to MWO.
You are doing brilliantly getting to day 4! Yes it does get easier, but you might want to try some anti craving supplements. You can get Lglutamine from Holland and Barret, that helped me loads. The depression should level out a bit as the withdrawals subside.
Stick around here for inspiration and support.
    You can do this honey.

Hello - Im new. advice needed please !

:welcome: Deffinately gets better. Be sure to drink lots of water to keep moving the toxins out. Alcohol is a depressant and that will begin to lift. Hang in there! It's worth it!

Hello - Im new. advice needed please !

Thanks for that... think ill give the lglutamine a try . I feel confused as I should be feeling happy and proud of myself ..... I was getting agitated if I had to delay my first drink cos the girls needed driving somewhere in the evening ! I know 4 days is a real acheivement - so why do I feel so miserable about everything?

Its your bodys way of adjusting. It takes time to recover.

Hello - Im new. advice needed please !

Ive been drinking daily for about 6 years.... although not this heavily - the last 2 years have been bad. I am drinking loads of water , and strangely have gone off coffee, tea and coke which I kept myself going with all day till it was time to drink . I always buy in fruit juice and smoothies for the kids and have been drinking those too - which I wouldnt ordinarily do.
Thanks for telling me about the drinktracker Emmy - I have just put my 4 days on there !
Its the feelings of utter misery im not coping well with.
Thanks for the replies ... hope I can hang in and be as positive as you soon.
                    Did you feel like this?

Hello - Im new. advice needed please !

I had pretty severe anxiety for about a month, and that was none too pleasant, but I knew I had no option but to ride it out. I wasnt about to continue on my current path at the time.

Hello - Im new. advice needed please !

Motherhen - Just wanted to say WELCOME!

AND... Four Days is FABulous. You really should be very proud of yourself. I think you're probably through the worst of it. I notice for myself that around one week is when the "habit" part is just about gone, and I start feeling better.

                        Take care of yourself, ok?

                            Hi MH,
It will get better. It takes some time but anyone who has had any alcohol free time will tell you the first few days are the worst. Just make sure there is none in your home and take the option off the table. Make sure you find a way to fill up your time and plan what you will doing during the time you usually drank. Keep checking back in here, reading and posting!

Hello - Im new. advice needed please !

Oh Motherhen, welcome! It gets better, promise (I'm just a few weeks in myself). Your 4 days going without alcohol is wonderful and really, just keep going with that. I used L-theanine (different than L-glutamine) for calming in the morning and it really helped with some of that anxiety. The biggest help for me was to read here and start making some connections via posting messages (just like you did! good job!) or the chat room -- so good to be with people who understand and can support. Also, the MWO book was really helpful. Hang in there and let us know what we can do.

                              Take good care of you!
