    December Determination ~ AF

Sorry Lav, never had osteo - have you tried glucosomine or chrondroitin? Don't know if it would work but its a good supplement for joints and bones.

Red, well done for staying AF despite the cravings - they can be a killer. I am crap at self-care, sadly. Need to improve this. Ah, grow some self-esteem Kim! Dill, I agree a good walk is great - can't wait til the ankle is better!

Cuckoo - ankle should be 6-8 weeks to recover fully. Thanks Ladybird and Sheri, it is getting better thankfully as time goes on.

Aspman - CONGRATULATIONS!! Bet she'll be just as cute as your little boy.

Sooty - who are you with? I had nightmares with Talktalk cust serv! Switched to Virgin and the service is great but they keep billing me wrong- grr!

Cyn, thanks for the AF strength - right back at ya. Thanks for hugs, Sdloves - same to you on this lovely Friday!

Wow other Kim, aka Lil, that's great that you volunteer. I find it brings so many rewards.

Phoenix great job beating those cravings. Looks like New Beginning will be using that method soon too. Rather you than me in the gym though!

Don't think I missed anyone who posted since I last did. I am off to the pub now to meet a mate who knows I don't drink. Pub is safe for me, it's home that I can't trust myself!!

Have a great night everyone! Big hugs to all!

      December Determination ~ AF

      Hi again!

Sheri - great minds think alike! I ordered some very expensive supplements from the Women to Women website this morning I used their products many years ago but got away from them because they were so costly. I figure I'll 'rob Peter to pay Paul' for a while - see what happens! There is no way anyone is going to force me back on the Biophosphonates again. I'd rather take a dose of poison!

Kimberly, thanks, I actually do take glucosamine & chondroiton - have for years. It really helps with stiff joint problems but doesn't help with bone density.

I know the medical world (which I used to be part of) believes that smoking & alcohol contribute to osteoporosis. I'm not so sure because I've know plenty of nonsmoking/nondrinking people who have osteoporosis, relatives included. I think genetics plays a much bigger part!

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts & opinions on the topic - what shall we talk about next????????

I turned my machines off at 3 pm - gonna take the time now to drag out some Christmas decorations!!

      Hang in there everyone

Evening everyone. A good day here and feeling tired now.
Lav I do hope your supplements arrive soon - I'm glad that you're looking after yourself, cos you are most important person after all!
Dill of course we are going to see Santa - I'd be more than happy to go via somewhere warm just for a few days though!
Kimberley I'm with plusnet now - had nightmares with Talk talk last year ....I guess they're all likely to fail at sometime or another ...I just need to be patient when the thing goes down!
Hey gang I beat a craving tonight - big trigger for me is being out and calling to the shop and buying booze to take home .... tonight gave daughter a lift and went out without money or cards - howzat for a good strategy???????
Its 9p.m. on Friday now - time for a hot chocolate and bed with a good book soon
Hope everyone has had a good day
keep safe determined ones - have a good weekend

Sounds as though we are each finding ways to beat temptation back with a stick and what a blessing to be free today. I awoke to temperatures in the single digits and while it has not peaked above freezing for a couple of days the pansies by the south door are alive and blooming in their little pot. That is determination. May we bloom:heart:. Love, Ladybird.
          may we be well

Quick post as I am exhausted and hope I sleep tonight. Hope everyone had a good day. I haven't read any of the posts as I worked at the shelter tonight and then came home and logged into chat. Will try to catch up tomorrow but the way this thread moves, we will probably be on page 16. Have a good night all.

Good morning, all. I'm impressed with the determination being shown on this thread.

Phoenix and Sooty, you each showed such strength in resisting the urge to buy alcohol. Sooty I like the idea of going out without money and cards. Any suggestions such as this is highly appreciated.

Sheri, thank you for the link to the bone website. I haven't checked it out yet but I will. Also, thank you for your comment about my volunteering. Trust me when I say, the animals give so much more back to me than I give to them.

Lil, I see you also do volunteer work. Do you have to deliver the meals everyday or is it a rotating shift type of thing?

Lav, good luck with your natural treatment for osteo. I always prefer trying natural before pharmaceauticals.

To everyone else, have a good Saturday. I will be on and off the site today, as my plans are to clean and decorate this weekend.

Lavande, hope you find something that works for you. I have arthritis in my ankle and always will have- I'm only 29! It sucks. Apart from supplements I recommend laughing regularly. Doc's orders!

Oh Sooty I considered Plusnet as they are cheaper than anyone else- but I was guessing their cust serv might be a bit rubbish. Get what you pay for I guess (and I am a skinflint! - I reluctantly agreed to get cable cos all my flatmates wanted it, but still holding out on the TV licence...)

Ladybird, I love your posts - you have some very positive vibes going on there

Cuckoo - you mentioned the 'shelter' - is that a homeless animal project? I love volunteering - I do it every xmas for homelss humans. And you know what the people you see are always so non-judgmental. Guess animals are even more so!

Have a great day everyone - I'm off to try and have a relaxing bubble bath. Attempting self-care!

LHB-What a lovely picture. Surely we can be as determined as your little pansies.

Cuckoo-Our animal shelter moved last summer so the phone # I have for them isn't any good. It isn't a totally no kill shelter but is trying to get the grants and fundings to become one. That is one of the things I will have to check in to before volunteering there. I can't bring them all home!

Kimberley-Everyone for MoW only deliver 1 day a week. I have also put myself on the substitute drivers list to fill in when someone misses. Didn't you serve meals somewhere on Thanksgiving day? This is my first winter not working so I am trying to find things to do. I didn't realize it would also be so rewarding.

Phoenix & Sooty-Good for you both on resisting temptation. The more you do it the easier it gets.

SD-It got cold out where you live early this year didn't it? Do you get a lot snow in winter?

Cyn-Welcome :welcome: to the cross post club!!

Red-I think we forget that taking care of ourselves on the outside is also part of the rewards of being af. I had pretty well stopped caring about haircuts and manicures and such when I was drinking.

Sheri-Let's stay in the gratitude mode not the deprivation mode. That too, gets easier.

Hello to Dill, Chops, Lav, Pnut, Aspman, Finding, Tylyr, Rennie, Dexter, and MNB.

My Christmas is coming early this year. My daughters will be coming here on the 19th to celebrate. Today I'm going to finish up the Christmas decoration and wrap a few presents. I have to keep my presents hid because my cats love to 'unwrap' them.

Wishing everyone a strong and determined Saturday!

                    Greetings Determinators!

                    Sooty, this one's for you:

Money is not required to buy one necessity of the soul.
                    --Henry David Thoreau

LBH, you are going to have to learn how to post a picture to the thread to share the cheer of your pansies. I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the "odd couple" minnie and maxie dogs either!

Lil, do you get to spend a couple minutes with the MoW recipients? About how many deliveries are on your route?

Kim, I'm glad your ankle is healing nicely.

Cucks, I think I will decorate this weekend, too. I don't know if I'll put up the tree yet, but I will put out some other favorite things. I'll wrap some gifts, too.

Sheri, we think alike, we drinkers: I thought the cashier would assume I was having guests in, too. Of course I had to alternate stores to keep up appearances.

Lav, have you started decorating yet?

                    Peace and strength to all.
                    Dill

Lil, I am in the UK - don't have thanksgiving- its xmas instead. Last 5 xmas es I worked at a homeless shelter - this year a friend has the gut to join me

It's challenging, but great - It's a good way of avoiding the al on Xmas - and I love it, helping people, so everyone wins.

Hi everyone - sooty, you did well not to give in to the cravings. I'm reading posts at the moment, just for that reason. It's a saturday, it's Christmas time, well nearly - and I could do with a glass or a few glasses probably, of wine. But, I musn't musn't... Does anyone have ideas on coping with cravings? Anything new, or different I mean

tylyr-Try burshing your teeth to help get past a craving. I did that at the beginning. Really helped stop the craving and had shiny teeth! Hang in there!

                              Good morning all,

Moving like a slug this morning..........may have slept too well last night

I VOW to get to the decorating today, will not let anyone or anything interrupt me!!!!!

tylyr, lil's advice is good - brushing your teeth will stop a crave to drink, to smoke & even eat if you are watching calories. I do it all the time

LBH, hope you are staying warm..........brr, sounds cold out there! It's raining here right now but supposed to turn into snow later. Probably won't be much because it's been on the warm side lately.

Kim, my daughter injured her knee skiing at the age of 14 & required surgery. Now at the ripe old age of 32 she's dealing with arthritis as well. We just have to deal with this stuff the best we can..............

Dill, are you making that peanut soup - is does sound good!!!!!

Sooty, is it dry outside yet? I sure hope so!

Sending Saturday greetings to everyone on this thread, hope you have a terrific day & meet your goals. Mine is to decorate & I am going to get started in just a few minutes

                              Check in later!

Just a moment before I head out to my weekly breakfast with Lord Bird Heart and his brother at a tiny fabulous dirt cheap diner where we are known by the initials D.P., F.W, and C.C. We made these up many years ago and nobody knows they stand respectively for Deep Pockets, Fat Wallet, and Cash Cow. Just wanted to let you know Dill that for around four big servings it would be one 14oz can unsweetened coconut milk and a heaping tablespoon of peanut butter (just until you can taste that dimension). As you don?t add these until the end you cook your veggies and chicken covered with water until they are tender. If you don?t use chicken, adding tofu, grilled or otherwise, at the end is really good also. Kimber, at twenty-nine, you are indeed the sweet English rosebud of our little group?s march out of perdition; don?t be too worried, I was told as a teen that a badly broken shoulder requiring a couple of surgeries would be arthritic and I am now eight thousand and twenty-two years old and still waiting for it. We got our enormous orange cat by the way as a kitten from a homeless mentally ill convicted felon; we helped him place our boy?s three siblings and got the mother spayed for the gentleman. Lovely, kind fellow; splendid cat. Hi Tylyr, huge, deep breaths. Hi all. More later. Love, Ladybird.
                                may we be well
