    December Determination ~ AF

    Good Morning all December Determinators!
Brrr....chilly morning here in Vermont. We woke up to 26 degrees with a tiny big of snow on the deck. The ground is still bare...doesn't seem right that we don't have a snowy groundcover yet.
I'm on my second cup of Joe and thinking about the day ahead. Isn't it great to wake up clear headed and actually look forward to the day? LOVE IT!!
To all out there...stay determined! :l

Good day all (love this big group) and thanks for the inspirational quote, Sheri. I am aiming true for a satisfied mind and heart at the end of this day. I got slammed awake by the same moon as you, Lav, but I am feeling fine anyway. Alcohol free insomnia is far different from the alternative. Lil and Dill, African peanut soup is wonderful and warming. The proper food will kill a craving and this one will make you forget why you every wanted a boozy drink in your whole life. Method: saute onion, green bell pepper, and carrot in olive oil until lightly caramelized; add chopped garlic, grated fresh ginger, and hot ground red pepper (I have some from Mombassa but any blistering one will do) until fragrant; add cubed sweet potato, a bit of chopped tomato, and chicken (optional?a vegetarian version is really good without this?if adding I usually grill it first for smokiness) and simmer until tender. Add coconut milk, a few spinach leaves, and finally, while fresh ground peanuts are traditional, a bit of really good peanut butter works great. Bring back to temperature and you are done! Finish bowls with a squeeze of lime and garnish with cilantro and chopped peanuts. Will make your forehead glisten and help your body heal. Love, Ladybird.
          may we be well

Good morning/afternoon/evening all! LBH - yum on the Peanut soup, thank you. You are right, 'the proper food will kill a craving', and I can't wait to try this. Also, I have been thinking a lot about December and its difficulities, and realized that food is one of the main issues. There are lots of theories out there saying that ingesting high-glycemic-load-carbs (think any Holiday baking!) is a sure way to bring on a craving. I agree that keeping the l-glut, Kudzu, b-vitamins, (anything to keep blood sugar level) close at hand is one of the best ways to help ourselves through the month. I'm concentrating on apple slices and string cheese to help me on the go.
Sending everyone strength and love and wishes for an AF day -

              I'm in!

I'd love to join this group!

I was AF on Monday (first AF day in 10 days)
Then yesterday I had two of my drinking triggers (rejection and loneliness), had a light beer and stopped myself after one (a minor miracle in itself)
Today should be an easy AF day - hubs is home and I have fun stuff to do.

LBH - a restaurant here in town has a Senegalese Peanut Tofu soup which is the BOMB!
SD - your reference to Packers *and* the tidbit about grocery stores there selling alcohol makes me guess you are from Wisconsin? And Liath too? I grew up in Kenosha. Did you know Wisconsin has one of the most liberal liquor laws in the nation?

Dill - I can *so* relate to trying to minimize the "clunking" in the trash can - LOL!
I never bought boxes because I am a sneak drinker and couldn't easily hide the box. Box wine is an alkie's dream come true, th, for sure! :new:
Go before that fire there, at the altar of your heart
That fire of who you really are and be consumed by it fully
Surrender everything into the fire of that love until you are one with that love. You ARE that love.

MM, when you click on the Go Advanced button, another thing to look for is that the last few posts on the thread appear below the message window. It helps if there is someone you wanted to make a comment to.

Sheri, thanks so much for the Lorimer quote. Good food for thought!

Welcome, Tylyr! We need all the support we can get for this tricky month. But you are right, it CAN be done.

LBH, that soup sounds fantastic. I have some hot peppers drying in one of my out buildings for the summer's garden. I think I will give this soup a try this weekend. You and Cyntree are absolutely right that good food is key to defeating those cravings.

Phoenix, I was a sneak drinker too, and I was very, very clever at hiding those boxes. Pitiful, eh? Of course, the wine was room temp and required ice cubes, but it wasn't about being classy, now was it? Pathetic.

aspman, welcome aboard. (whispering so as not to alert the boss)

OK, I am out of time. Hello to all, and a peaceful, sober evening.:h

                    Hey all,
Haven't posted on MWO for a week or so as I have been recovering from ankle surgery and it is very tiring! But I see some familiar names on here as well as some new ones, so I hope you don't mind if I hop onto your thread too. December can be tough due to party season, but this looks like a very strong group and I hope we can all support each other.

Good morning all! December third, expecting snow today. It's OK to have snow in December, so Let's get some of the white stuff on the ground. IT makes it look so Christmassy.:h

Still fighting a cold, and got the H1N1 flu shot yesterday, so I better not get any more colds, flu or illnesses. I hate being sick. I slept from about 8 p.m. last night till 5:30 a.m. I could have slept all day, but need time to get ready for work.

Really happy to see Kimberly visit our thread and all the other DD joiners. aspman, cuckoonest, choppersmom, reenie, phoenix rising and everyone else.

Man, I had some weird dreams last night. I remember them clearly and they were all negative. I hate that. I wonder if they are going to happen. The first two were some of my worst fears...having to sell my house due to money issues, feeling lost and the second one was being kidnapped by a psychopath. The second round of dreams was my good friend from high school coming to visit saying she wanted to do meth. In my dream I said, "Absolutely not." Then noticed her rotten teeth and started crying. What a night, what dreams. Does anybody else get dreams like this and what do they mean, if anything?

Don't have to plan dinner tonight, it's my husband's turn. Hope to have a busy and productive day. The group I work with goes out to lunch on Thursdays, so I have that to look forward to and the upcoming weekend. My husband said to me, "and I don't want to drink this weekend or at all." He was very vehement about it and I don't know where that came from. I noticed he has been trying to eat healthy, so he will definitely get support from me regarding healthy eating and no booze. I really need him to be AF with me or will not be able to resist. So, it is good that we are on the same team.:l

Sending everyone strength and hope, AF. :
