Dill - we are expecting 14" of snow, starting after midnight & thru the day tomorrow - Ugh! Carting firewood around IS exercise in my book

Sooty - wind from Russia? That sounds pretty cold to me!! Throw another log on the fire friend!

I'm going to try to relax with a big cup of green tea now. I need to ponder why my brother (who has a terrible drinking problem) decided to launch an unprovoked attack on me twice this week on Facebook! I haven't seen on talked to him in any fashion for 18 months! I think he's getting very paranoid & delusional. Very sad!

Hello wonderful ones - just a quick check in on Friday night. Just as I feared, yesterday and today were long and stressful - up at 4:30 this morning to finish a PowerPoint presentation I had to do at 9:00 a.m....afterwards I felt like I had finished college Finals!

Mr Tree is in DC right now - loooking at the snow predicted for there, I'm not sure if we'll see him before Christmas or not! Or maybe he'll fly directly to my Mom's in NE to meet me...who knows! I lived in MN for 25 years, so you can believe me when I say I miss the snow....I bought a DVD of a fire to put on my TV screen, as we have no fireplace here...you are all making me jealous with your talk of fireside relaxing....but you all deserve it!

Lav - I agree that the gift we all want to give you is your AF Christmas. The 26th will be a great day for you!

SD - it's great to hear your clear head about the 'why' of drinking - I understand, but also thought it was interesting that it didn't seem very appealing, even to you, in your description. Wishing you lots of patience for the weekend.

Lil - take some well deserved rest this weekend - self care!

Sooty - good for you to sidestep that insanity....

Greetings All,

SD, my son WAS in Iraq. He has left the military. He actually lives nearby, which is very nice. But in this economy, he is like so many vets: cannot find good employment. He has a wife and child. So, thankfully, he has the GI bill and is starting school in January. We have always had a very special relationship, as you do with Brayden. Many things change, but some things, the important ones, remain the same. I wish you strength for the weekend. It sounds like you'll need some extra!

Cyn, I love it! A DVD of a fireplace! What a good idea. When I was out shopping yesterday I saw a really cute space heater at Sam's Club. It was a replica of a Vermont castings style wood stove with a glass front. Inside was a glowing firelog. It was so inviting looking that I wanted to buy it, even though we don't need it. We have two fireplaces in this old farmhouse and Mr. Dill keeps both of them going through the winter.

Lav, I woke up in the wee hours of the morning and looked out at the snow. It is just so beautiful and as LBH said, there was the "deep snow silence in the fields and woods". I hope you don't get snowed in. Do you and Mr. Lav have a 4 wheel drive vehicle? Our jeep is 4WD.

Mighty, enjoy your visit with your children! Pop in when you can. I know it is hard to when there is company, though. My daughter and SIL will be arriving on the 23rd for a few days. Looking forward to it!

LBH, do you get snow where you live?

Lil, It's wonderful when the kids come home and kind of nice when they go back home, too, isn't it. We are so used to being here, just the two of us, that it's hard when the routine is changed. I wish we didn't live so far apart from our children.

Pnut, where are you? Davie, Red, Sheri, Soots, Chops, Stirly, Chill, Pamina, Lodestar and any one who stops by, may we be blessed with another AF day!

Wow, it's coming down big time! I need to clear a path to the hen house soon - make sure they're not killing each other in there

Dill, I'm glad you have your son nearby, they remain special no matter how old they get! What is he going to study? Neither one of my kids are doing anything remotely related to their degrees - but they're happy!

Cyn, we've had that fireplace DVD for years...........Mr Lav picked up a new one this year

If anyone wants to come play in the snow please do so. Looks like there's goin to be plenty out there. We do have a 4x4 truck Dill, just in case

Lav - Happy Birthday?!!!! You go girl - one inspirational chick! (PS - hoping your chicks in the henhouse are doing OK in the snow). I got up this morning to snow. Evidently we are suppose to get a couple of inches. Not too bad.

Dill-Yes, I wish my kids lived closer too. Especially my youngest in Fl. Sometimes they bring their dogs and that really does change our routine. Three of my cats 'disappear' until all the company is gone.

Lav-Congratulations on 7 months AF and a great big Happy Birthday!

Cyn-You don't get snow where you live? I don't think I would miss snow too much.

Happy birthday Lav hope you have a lovely day and a successful, happy and healthy year to come.
Still bitterly cold here but no snow - we rarely have snow so if we do there is great excitement and road and rail chaos - sounds like you are pretty used to it.
I can't stop now friends as the most important time of the week has arrived - its the final of Strictly Come Dancing - I think you call it Dancing with the Stars - anyway its very exciting this time, one man who is extremely talented and a brilliant dancer versus another bloke who the public love ....and you know us Brits love an underdog ...so it could be interesting!
I'll see you all tomorrow if I don't get chance to get back on tonight.

Happy Saturday all. We are having icy winter sun at the moment and the huge kitty is stretched flat as a stamp in his south window ?beam?. We do get snow where I live, D., and while it is usually a quick melting two to four inches a couple of years ago we had eighteen. Very pretty and brought things to a halt. Feels good being in the Lav AF path, she is going to have the best Christmas Eve and so are we. We are all very lucky that you were born, Ms. Lav. Love, Ladybird.

Weather update from the other North Pole :H

3 PM, it's 23 degrees & 9" of snow on the ground - we're actually getting an inch/hour!!!
It's supposed to continue snowing until Noon tomorrow :upset:

Guess there's no chance of going out for my birthday dinner tonight..........if I have to cook it's going to be something really, really quick :H

Thanks for the birthday wishes friends, I love you all & am very happy that we are making this journey together! I will get this Christmas past me & finally allow myself to exhale......you all know I've been holding my breath, just a little. Last year was such a nightmare this year will be excellent

I'll be back later with another weather update - the Weather Channel is calling this the Blizzard of 2009!!!

The storm seems to be winding down. I'm going to wait til morning to measure the total accumulation - it's pretty darn cold out there right now
I honestly don't remember ever having this much snow on my birthday.....so much for global warming!

It looks like winter has arrived for all of us so I found us a happy snow song to start our day. We only got a couple of inches yesterday but everything is covered and looks so pretty. I have no big plans today and plan to stay inside where it's toasty and warm.
