Hi Hotrod! Wow - I have the honor of responding to your VERY First Post!!

I can't remember now how I found this site, but you hit the Jackpot. I'm quite sure that I wouldn't have had the AF (alcohol free) time I've had over the past year without it.

I know you will be getting lots of advice, but mine is basically just roam around, look at different forums, threads, etc. You'll relate (as I did) to Many people's situations.

Check out the ODAT (one day at a time) thread on this forum. Good way to stick your toe in. (And keep posting!)

    Good luck & :welcome:!!

            Hi Hotrod!

Welcome to MWO, it's a great place!
I started by downloading the MWO book from the Health Store & making a good plan for myself. After you've read the book you can decide for yourself what you want to do regarding the nutritional supplements & meds. I didn't use them myself but I did use the Hypnotherapy CDs, I highly recommend them.

Please feel free to drop in the 'Newbies Nest' thread for extra support as well. You've made a good decision for yourself, now you need to make a commitment to meet your goals. It's not easy in the beginning but a lot of us have done it, you can too! You won't be sorry

Wishing you the best on your journey!

thanks Jackie, I have recently (2 months ago ) retired, my wife and I drink wine everynight, I usually start around two or three in the afternoon, and continue till I pass out in my chair. I have put on weight,( I would guess 3 or 4000 calories a night in wine ) and am the heaviest I have ever been, old and fat, not a good combination, I can deal with old.

                  Hi Hotrod,
I also have gained weight from drinking an average of 10 drinks nightly for the past 2 1/2 years (while keeping up in a competitive, highly stressful career). I started listening to the CDs (clearing) the night before Christmas and this was the first Christmas since my before my teenage years that I have been sober. I'm on day #2 having listened to the 2nd CD last night (the hypnotic CD).

Hi Hotrod and also Freeatheist. :welcome:

Like Lavande, I started by downloading the My Way Out Book from the Health store and took it from there. I got my start by doing the program exactly as written including the diet and exercise recommendations with one exception - I did not take Topomax or any other prescription medication. (nothing against that for others - just wasn't interested in that myself). I think having a specific program to work is the only thing that helped me put two AF (alcohol free) days together! (I had been a daily drinker for 30+ years)

My road to sobriety has had bumps, no question about that. It's been hard work. But sobriety is worth every single difficult moment it took to get here. I had no life before. I stayed holed up in my house drinking wine or vodka from the earliest time of day I could, until I passed out. I didn't WANT to go places and do things - I only wanted to drink. My life was planned around my drinking.

Today I have a full life with more things to do than time to do them all. I love waking up with a clear head and ready to tackle the new day. Is my life perfect? Hell no. But it is about 28563856793 times better than it was when I was living for AL, and really not wanting to even live at all.

Sobriety won't happen by wishing for it or even by reading and posting here. Those things help, but it takes a solid plan and a lot of work and committment.

                    Strength and hope to you.

                    DG
