    A new start for 2010 - who's in and what's your plan?

Thanks for the advice and making me feel welcome

    Cuckoonest & Kimberley,

Thank you for the acknowlegedment of me & my questions/problems. You make me feel welcome.

I will check out the other group (moderators) but maybe I am still in denial.........I haven't figured it out yet.

Also Cucoonest I am going to look for online AA tomorrow and try it and see what I think. My knowledge of AA (admittely limited to what I know from a few of my AF friends) is that it is supportive but it is not set up to help face/heal deep hurts and pains - and those are my problems right now.

I appreciate you all for understanding the problem/shame/issues. And I look forward to a better than (my usual) years.

    Micah:thanks:

      A new start for 2010 - who's in and what's your plan?

      Hi all!

I hope everyone is doing well. I am in the middle of my work week and on my way to bed. I will say that whether our goals are to be AF for a week, a month, a year, or forever, I still think that we can support each other here. I am personally simply trying to change my relationship with AL.. it has been a destructive and dangerous relationship. Like an abusive relationship, it has escalated and I have put myself in harms way. I want this to change forever. Would I like to be able to drink a beer or have just one glass of wine at dinner like a normal person? The answer is yes. But I know that is difficult for me because, AL is like an ex that I am still in love with. One look, one drink, and the need comes rushing back. So my goal is as many AF days as I can muster. So far I have 2 out of five AF and no benders.

I want to ask, is anyone else cranky as all hell when they get home from work? I feel as if I have lost my ONE reward at the end of the day. I must find away to be happy at the end of a long day and and not a crabby b****. Well I have tea and a good book and lots of food and NA drinks... I am sure this discontent will ease. I hope...

      Love you all! Good night!

        A new start for 2010 - who's in and what's your plan?

        Good morning to all.

Micah, you are welcome here!!!! Trust me when I say everyone's goal on this site is to change their relationship with alcohol. Whether or not they want to abstain or moderate, they want to be in control of the alcohol and not the other way around.

Liath, I was so stressed when I got home from work yesterday because I didn't have my one (haha) drink to take the edge off (for me it is never one drink-alcohol for me is like the commercial for Lay's Potato Chips-bet you can't have just one). I was short with the dogs and my neighbor dropped in and I was short with her. Told her I was running out and didn't have time to talk. One thing I find that helps is exercise and by that I mean just a short walk around the block just to clear your head.

Kimberly, thanks for this thread. It has been a big help.

Everyone else have a sober/good day.

          A new start for 2010 - who's in and what's your plan?

One quick thought before I head out to work, it seems we tend to focus on the day we are trying to stay AF. This morning I woke up thinking today is day 3 for me and wondering if I would make it through without a drink but then I thought, I want a day 4, 5, etc. sober and I can't have those without a day 3, so I have to make it through today.

I also would like to offer words of encouragement today. You are all an inspiration whether you are meeting your "goals" or not meeting them (yet). Your striving is what makes us all human and binds us.

Hello, new here. I need to get sober. I'm a bit of a binge drinker, otherwise pretty functional. But I have to quit. Today is day 2. I've done it before but I abused myself for Thanksgiving, Christmas and four days straight over New Year . Looking for others that can relate

Welcome to you Mazzie- love your avatar!! Feel honoured your first post is on our thread and very glad you're feeling so positive about your new start

Hi to Cuckoo, Com, Micah, Liath, Chill, Mau, and welcome to Geojag and GoneBy. Phew - there's a lot of us! But that's a good thing

Can't type too much as I am stuck in the office at the moment. But just wanted to pop in to wish you all a great morning/evening/afternoon - whatever it is where you are right now - and to say a quick hi to the new joiners.

Might pop back later when I get home if it's not too late (which it looks like it might be!)

Wow it's nearly been a week and I am full of so much energy it's great. See you all on the thread later.
                        Bye for now,

A good day to be sober- cold, and really windy here in the northeast! Had herbal teas last night, coffee this morning-took my son to the bus stop in the bitter, dark, cold-it's like the tundra here- so much for global warming! This is day 2! Hope everyone else is happy and sober!

                              Hi All,:thanks:

Thank you Kimberley for the warm welcome and a big hello to Fluff, Goneby, Chilli, GJ, Mau and others. It is so good having this support here. My plan to not drink is to not buy any in the first place. So on the way home from work (it starts at about 3pm really) the mental hassle and debate of whether I am going straight home or stopping at the bottle shop (for just 1 bottle!). Ugh!!! Going into day 5 today and feeling pretty good right now.

Hello all. Functional alcoholic, I can relate to but since this disease is progressive I find it harder and harder to function. The more I drink the more I want so AF is the only way for me.

A big welcome to Goneby and Geo. Mazzie, Fluff, Chill, Com good to see us all still here.

MauMcL thank you for your kind words. I think we are all an inspiration for each other in this struggle.

Kim, thank you for this thread and your attentiveness to each of the members of this thread.
