    A new start for 2010 - who's in and what's your plan?

    Hi Everyone,

:welcome:to the Newbies Tippylou and Jill. You've done great so far finding this site and posting. I was hanging around for about a year before I posted my first only a few days ago. Anyway Tippylou any days af are an achievement - we all just need more of them strung together. Jill, sounds like you have a plan - just need determination to see it through.

I'm starting day 8 today and beginning to feel good - sort of bubbles of happiness inside every now and then. Haven't had that in a long while. No real withdrawal to speak of Tipp only tiredness and lethargy which hopefully will be replaced with some real energy soon. Am trying my best to look after myself with nanna naps on the weekends etc. Waking up in the morning with no guilt or shame after sleeping all night is the best.

Winelover and Tawny Witch and others who have hit a bump in the road, it's all experience and I think may help us remember why we are trying to be af. I have stayed close to home where there is no al (that I like) so I'm yet to test myself 'out there' in the real world of get togethers etc.

Kim, thanks for starting this thread and your replies. You sound like you are doing OK.

Hope you all have a great Monday. I think buttered almond icecream sounds wonderful especially seeing as its sweaty here just staying still in the shade!!! Had some lovely rain and now the sun has come out with a vengence and is so steamy and sticky. Just as well for me I work in air-con!!!

Well, it's 4:20 here. I have been sitting on my bed with my laptop all day wrestling with myself. The thoughts are constantly running in the back of my mind. I just need to get through the next 5.5 hours until the stores close. I may have this entire forum read by that time. I am guilting myself that I should be cleaning the house, laundry etc. I guess I'll have to be content that I'm not drinking. Thanks to all out there, I sure need your support.:h

        A new start for 2010 - who's in and what's your plan?

        Evening all,
I see it's been busy here while I've been out and about.

Com glad the weather is better there - did you get any fishing done?

Haha Cuckoo, yes I tell myself that banoffee pie is fruit as well (totally disreagrd all the toffee, cream and biscuit!!) AAAAAh drool, I LOVE banoffee pie!

Winelover, don't say sorry to us - just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, learn from it if you can and get back posting on the thread. Same to Tippy and Tawny - look you can all start again together.

Tippy everyone experiences different levels of withdrawal - if any at all. I have had binges where I've only had a hangover and others where I'm withdrawing so bad that I have been shaking, puking and hallucinating (the latter is mainly coming off days of spirits.) My withdrawals last up to 4 days physically and then the anxiety continues until I have been out and about a few times and am back in the sober groove - let us know how you get on and stay safe.

Hi Jill and a big WELCOME to you! Of course if you need any tecchy/lingo help just ask

Hi Stirly and thanks for your wise words as always and for welcoming all the newcomers

Ooh Mazzie, you are making me jealous with the weather over there! I came in today freezing cold with my feet all wet from the melting snow! Congrats on day 8 - I love your 'bubbles of happiness inside' desription. I feel like I know exactly what you mean. I like to think its a little feeling of freedom mixed with a boost in self-esteem. Whatever it is, it sure feels great!

I had a lovely day today - had a pub lunch with some old friends. I don't have a problem with pubs luckily. I had sparkling water with lime (tastes a bit like beer, which I do miss and haven't had in ages), which was nice and refreshing. And I will remember this meet-up (unlike some other occasions). Not to mention I was able to go to it due to being fit and healthy (unlike many other occasions). And I liked who I was today and so did my friends (ditto).

I really feel like I'm in the flow at the moment and I don't want it to ever end Night all and I hope you all have a great week following the weekend.

Tippy, you can do it!! Think how bad you will feel tomorrow if you cave in and think how good you will feel if you don't.

Why not pop into chat if you need some more support - it will kill a bit of time as well. If it helps to keep busy then do the chores, but if it would just stress you out then do something else. Something nice. A long bubble bath? A good book? Your fave film (not a depressing one!)? Whatever floats your boat, but remember YOU DO HAVE A CHOICE HERE. Choose to be nice to yourself. And I mean properly nice, not short-term what-the-hell-this-is-what-I-want nice!! ;-)

Sending you a big hug and lots of strength!!

            Good morning all,

It is beyond my capabilities to keep track of all but congrats on all your progress.

I am very grateful today of being able to say I am still AF. And I plan on being grateful tomorrow as well.

I will be fishing today as the wind is supposed to be below gale force!

            ODAT for me.

                  A new start for 2010 - who's in and what's your plan?

                  Good morning everybody!

I am a blast from the not too distant past. I joined in August and had a couple of good weeks there. September was not nearly as successful, and I confess that in October I just gave up. I knew that the holidays were coming and I knew that I wouldn't be successful and I didn't want to add more guilt than I already feel.

Today will be my first day AF. I'm preparing myself for the withdrawal symptoms - and particularly the craving. I know I can do it - I know it will be hard - but I also know that I don't want to spend the rest of my life like this!

                      Hey all,

Com, you're really stringing those days together now - it's great that you have lots of other interests like fishing and golf. That must really help.

Winelover, how are you doing now? Got over the hump?

Same for you Tippy. Did you make it through yesterday? If so, how? What helped?

Chillgirl, so glad your sleep is finally sorting itself out. It's amazing how much better you feel after a good night's sleep.

DETERMINATION!!! :l Thanks so much for joining us! Yeah same as you I kinda gave up towards the end of last year after tons of problems. I know you can do it too.

Well as for me, I am 'craving central' today - psychological only, which is a pain. I have made myself a nice steak with broccoli and green beans (mmm, can just taste the antioxidants) and am sipping a detox tea. Gonna do some much-needed chores in a bit and I have already made plans for Friday with one of my housemates so that the weekend cravings (which will undoubtedly be stronger) aren't an issue.

Stay strong everyone - this too shall pass (I hope!)

Kimberely - :l ! It sounds like you have a good plan in place to get you through the craving.

Unlike in August, I have ordered the supplements and hope that they can help with the craving. I also am on the fence about talking to my physician about Topomax - afraid of it getting into my medical history so the insurance company could try to use my dependency as a "pre-existing" condition for health problems in the future. I also am enlisting the help of my DH - I didn't try to do that before. I also am working really, really hard on changing how my attitude towards alcohol, i.e. it doesn't help me relax or sleep better. A book is just as good with or without a glass of wine - especially since sober I will be able to read more instead of reading and ending up passed out with the book in my lap.

Ah, Determination it sounds like your plan will make all the difference. Many times I have heard it said on this forum that the behaviour only changes once the attitude to al changes. And it's also mega helpful to have your partner support you. Best of luck and I hope to catch up with you more on this thread. Now chores!!!
