    i blew it

    hi everyone well i blew it i caved on the weekend and i know for the life me i shouldn't have. i feel really low right now knowing full well that i could have posted but chose the ugly friend that has carried me through for a long time. in reality it isn't my friend it is my enemy. well i know that i have to make another start and though it feels like another long run of this ever ending ordeal of trying to start over. i know that in my heart i can do this and i want to do this just for me for once. i really appreciate all the support, i have had 9 days and that was a big deal it doesn't mean it is over it just means i need to re-boot and start this again. hoping everyone has been doing better than me. to tomorrow for a day of af.

    Hi Rosepetal,

    Just get up, dust yourself off and try again. It`s absolutely normal to weaken at times WE ALL HAVE! but please don`t shy away from asking for help, we will all be here to lend a helping hand..:l

      Rosepetal, I agree with Bunny when that happens we need to dust ourselves off and get right back to our mission.

      Wondering are you guys using the supplements to reduce cravings? Can you tell a difference right away or did it take awhile? Or did you feel any difference?

        Hi old vine,

        I am taking L-glutamine as recommended by a lot of folks here and it does seem to help. I also take Gaba and panax ginseng. For me ginseng really helps with anxiety. Rhodiola Rosea also works well for stress. I think the key is to control your blood sugar level, so make sure you take your L-glut regularly throughout the day and watch your sugar intake. But most of all, keep posting here, it`s better than any supplement!

          Rose Petal you did 9 days. 9 Days that's awesome.

          Now you can do it again. Progress is being made. Next time you will do evenmore. Can you remember when you did 9Days AF in the past? If you can't then I say you have accomplished a huge milestone and you are a little stronger and more aware of what life you want.

          Good Job on 9 days. I am very proud of you. If you can jump back on the AF streak again I know you are going to pass that milestone.

          I figure is we have a relapse but last longer on AF we are beating this. Not everyone can go cold turkey and I wonder if more people who are free of AL probably had set backs along the way.

          Good job and I'll keep watching for your progress in the next posts.

            Rosepetal, just pick right back up and don't look back. I too got off track after 9 days and then again after 11 days, but kept on trying again. Have 9 months and going strong, so it can be done if you put your heart into it.
            Did you try kudzo and the vitamin supplements? I used calms forte for the anxiety too. They all seem to help. Whatever it takes, I say.

            And yes, keep using MWO.

              Rosepetal, I love your attitude of rebooting and starting again. You rock and you can do it! We're all here for you and are proud of your AF9 and can't wait to see you do it again, only longer this time!

                Hiya Rose, the early days of sobriety really are tough, and I think most of us can relate to the stop start initially. I know before it stuck for me I was continually on a rollercoaster of drinking.
                Keep reviewing your triggers, and finding new ways to deal with them.
                Most of all keep at it, its hard but so very worth it.

                  Rose, I fell off the proverbial wagon on day 11...not too bad,but I did. I'm extending my arm to you, so we could start this journey again...As a kid how many times did we fall down on roller skates just to do it all over agin. How many times did we nearly drown before mastering holding our breaths while swimming? How many times did we fall while running and still ran? The how many's are endless. The point is we always did it. YOU can do it again-it's okay, you'll master it one day! We all will!
                  ***p.s- Im not disounting my 10 af free days either. I earned them ! So instead of day14 I put myself at day 13 and gonna keep it moving!

                    No need to feel bad, Rosepetal. We've all done the same thing, more times than many of us would like to admit! In such instances, it's tempting to resume regular drinking. If your addicted brain tries to convince you that you need an immediate drink, remind yourself that you don't need an immediate drink because you made it 9 days before. This latter strategy has helped me out in the past.

                      Rosepetal, again like everyone else says well done on the 9 days they are still there. I know its disappointing when we break the run, have done it myself after 24 days and am kicking myself now am back on 27 days should be 51 but i think we should look at the bigger picture. There are 365 days in a year, I think another measurement of AF are the number of those days without AL, that will show what everyone is doing over the longer period?

                        Bunny, have you noticed that the Rhodiola rosea helps with the addiction as well? There are some Universities studying the plant for this reason, along with another herb derived from those vines that grow everywhere (Kudzu?). Personally, it seems to help me just as much with my addiction as it does with the addiction-caused chronic stress. I know its mostly for stress, but I'm trying to get a handle on this other aspect of the plant. At first, when I tried Rhodiola I wouldn't get this response (from Whole Foods), but I now take two or three capsules of one called Mind Body & Spirit and I'm getting more from it now. I'm feeling like I WANT to TAKE the herbs, where in the past, it was just "OK, I'm a bit stressed, so I'll take some Rhodiola, and perhaps some Chamomile tea, and go sit down and read." Now, I seem to be able to handle my stress while working at the same time. Sorry to come out of "lurk" mode here, but I need to get some other opinions on whether this herb is doing more than simply removing stress. I think my doc should know this stuff is helping in other ways. THanks much ):

                          Hello Samanta111 and :welcome:

                          I discovered Rhodiola last year when I was watching an Oprah show and Dr.Oz was on talking about it. I decided to try it because apparently it has great anti-aging properties. I don`t know about the anti-aging part but I definitely noticed that I was much calmer when I was taking in. I did some research on the net and found out it is what you call an adaptogen. There are other herbs (such as ginseng) that fall under the same category. These adaptogens help your body adapt to stress (i believe it has something to do with controling cortisol levels...) and for me I can confirm that it does. So I could understand that it might help with addiction since less stress could equal less need to drink. I personally take the brand Now foods and my ginseng is from them as well. Hope this helps!

                            Hello Everyone, I am always excited to log into this site and find conversations going. Thank you for responding to mine. I am on day two of L-Glutamine and I also take 5 HTP with B6. It is hard to say yet if its working, but my cravings do seem less.

                            I have not taken Rhodiola Rosea but will look into it. I believe I may have seen "Body, Mind, Spirit" at the healthfood store. What is in it?

                              I didn't mention in my earlier post, but I have been doing so good and tonight my neighbors invited me over for dinner and although I only had small portions of an italian dinner I ate salad, and mostly sauce and vegetables, I had a small glass (like a sherry glass) of red wine staring at me. Which is custom in this Italian family. I caved and drank it. :-( So, I started on the first to be AF and diet to lose weight and I am disappointed in myself for drinking it.
