What was most valuable to you?

I am trying this again. Today is day 3 and I have to be honest the past 2 days were AF because I was just too busy working late. But I figure I am off to a good start so let's keep this going.

I am so tired and have some intense cravings. I just want to sleep all day but I can't. Life goes on!

So my question to those that have been successful, what tool do you think was the most valuable to you in getting through the first few days?

I have Topa that I was thinking about starting again but it seems to just make me lazy and cloudy. As I am typing this I am sipping some OJ w/All One and thinking about going back to bed. Wine is my weakness and I don't have any in the house now. However, this weekend I am going on vacation and I am thinking I won't last through that.

Wannabsober - I was a heavy wine drinker up until end December and drank every day at least two bottles. I went cold turkey in Jan but i had thought it through and had a plan in place, i.e. what to do during the witching hour when i usually had my 1st drink etc. I kept busy, phoned people or came on here to the chat room, anything to get me through it! I hardly slept the 1st two weeks from withdrawl but once that passed I got back into a good sleep pattern and now sleep 7-8 hrs a night straight through which i never did when i was drinking.

The best part for me is still waking up every morning without a hangover! Its awesome.....

The 1st few weeks are the toughest and if you can stay focuses and busy thats great, also not having alcohol in the house is a must. Make it as difficult as possible for you to get a drink.

I know it seems like such a huge task but im now 6 weeks AF and love my new life so much.
Wishing you much strength in getting through this.

        WannaB,
I am taking Baclofen. I have only been on it for about a week and while I still have the craving and the never ending thoughts, I take a dose in the evening around the time I usually drink and I find it makes me tired and I dont think about drinking that night. I find it helps me get to sleep fast too.

I pretty much lived lurking around this place and posting a bit for the first few days. I found being able to identify with others at every stage of my battle really helpful, at all times somebody understood how I felt.

It differed each time for me. But the common factor through them all was rest rest and more rest. I'd sleep whenever possible no matter what time of day. Usually I'd fall asleep watching brain numbing TV. But like molly I lurked here a lot when I was awake and tried hard to just connect with people and keep my mind busy.

The last time and final time (I hope) I started attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings which helped greatly because I needed that face to face contact with other people. Plus I got loads of hugs from fellow addicts which helped a lot believe it or not to boost my spirit and keep me going.

But plenty of rest would be my advice and keep yourself busy.

I make sure that I am always busy so by the time evening comes I am so tired that I dont even want a drink. And if i get a craving during the day I make myself a cup of coffee, but everyone copes in different ways have you tried L-Glut in the powder form and when you get a craving just put some either under your tongue or mix it with some juice.
