Hi everybody i am new to this site . Have just read a message from a guy who said just how I feel about my drinking. Do not drink everyday but when I do it triggeres an on switch that I just don't seem to be able to switch off, not everytime I drink but sometimes so always live in fear of that happening and when it does I often get aggresive , abusive , have memory loss,do and say silly thing and then feel guilty and ashamed afterwards and down right depressed for several days afterwards, all together not good and it is just wrecking my life and every relationship I have had. Have decided to try topomax , but have decided to buy off the internet as well as the books DVD abd suppliments off this site. But I am not sure what sort of dose to take. I am a female who weighs about 100 pounds but I am really drug sensative , have ordered 25mg tablets off line . Wondered if anybody could give me any idea how much to take oviouusly want to keep the dose to a minimum for various reasons, side effects, costs and wondered if a reduced dose would be ok as luckily I do have have the craving to drink everyday . would really appreciate any advice anybody could offer.:new:

You should follow the dosing recommendations in RJ's book. If you haven't ordered it you can currently download it for free (I think) at http://www.mywayout.org/blog/

The dosing starts at 25 mg. Some people notice an almost immediate effect; for others it takes a does of 75, 100 or higher. I started seeing some effect at 75 mg but it really kicked in at 200 mg. I have zero physical cravings but still have to fight the occasional psychological urge. If you find that 25 mg is too much for you to tolerate, they do manufacture topamax "sprinkles" for you to start with, so you can work up to 25 mg.

As losing weight is NOT something you need to do, you'll need to be careful to keep eating enough to maintain your weight. Topamax does decrease appetite.

Topamax is effective and relatively safe -- but it is a prescription drug and should be treated as such. There are some other potential side effects that you should watch for, and RJ talks about these in her book as well.

Good luck to you and keep close to this website -- there is a lot of good support here. We have all been through the same hell you describe with alcohol, and it does get better.

I checked this post because of the name, my eight year old is a Flo too.

Anyway you sound like me the inability to stop and feeling depressed afterwards. In the book 'seven weeks to sobriety' the test shows different types of alcoholics, one being allergic addicted. These people are sensitive to drigs and she even takes care in her supplements to reduce them for these people.
When I first did the questionaire a couple of years ago I didn't see my self. I do now and even though I realise that if I am allergic to alcohol then I'll never be able to moderate I haven't yet managed to stop but even sups I have trouble with. This is why I'm working on getting over to a raw diet, so everything I eat helps.

YOu can even start at lower doses of the topa if you are sensitive to drugs - I think you can get 15mg 'sprinkle' caplets - maybe you can look this up...or you can ask RJ - the administrator of this site. Let me know if this makes sense ok?

Have ordere 25mg tablets from the net will give them a go might try taking one every other day to start, or might just take a half they cant make me more off my head than drink does ! thanks again flo :thanks:
