    Disapearing posts...

Here is yet another post that I will either not hit "submit" by the time that I am done, or (only once so far) clear out after the fact.

This particular post though I am realizing that at the end of the day / post all I am trying to ascertain or justify is what I already know, I drink too much but where is the line really drawn in the context of family, work, etc.

--Edit: the below is a rant after trying to compose a post after 20 minutes or so - just lost my patience! --
Actually right now I am about to explode trying to type something and this %$!@ entry box keeps moving up and down every 8 seconds because of the advertising banners above. F*! this. Mods PLEASE!!

Mine doesn't move from advertising banners. That's the first time I have heard that.

I don't understand you comment about a line being drawn, is drinking interfering with family and work?

        Thanks.

Ok, before I sound like a complete nut: as I was attempting to type the original post the screen would jump up and down impossible to keep a thought.

I am fighting lots of things that make it ok for me to drink as I do, and they are many - I earn a very generous salary, have a paid off huge house, 5 kids and a great wife, less typical I am also an active endurance athlete (marathons, etc) plus enjoy other hobbies.

And drink at least 8 beers 4 days a week. Often 5 days. The high side, although rare, goes well past 12. Been going on forever.

So justify as "as long as 3 sober days a week" or whatever.

Bottom line is that I keep [almost] posting here and bottom line the fact that I am postng to begin with means that I understand I have a problem.

Feels like a rant by now but since this is a reply not a new post guess I can't delete it ah?

I think you might be able to delete the whole thread, but that won't delete the thoughts you have that you want to cut back on drinking or end drinking, so it doesn't really matter what you do to the post.
I have 5 kids also... I don't have a wife or a huge paid off house though. (little humor there)
Welcome to MWO. The book and supplements are in the store here on the site.
Do you have a goal in mind? Have you tried to go a week without drinking? Do you think you would have withdrawal symptoms?

            Thanks for the reply.

Goal? Sure - to be able to drink socially and when everyone is done be done with them.

Had a similar goal after smoking for 20 years, envied the folks that could enjoy a smoke after a steak dinner or with a drink and then not smoke for days or weeks. But did not work for me. But I quit smoking 9 years ago and way way done with that.

Drinking - I try to stick to beer on purpose, and usually 3 days is the longest without, enforced by my races (and I race 15+ times a year) so that is almost my sole excuse to have these "healthy liver days" - the longer the race distance the more days for a drink taper.

Still well above the 100-beer-a-month measuring stick.

I supose the hope is that I now get 40 replies saying "you only drink beer, and have 2 or 3 sober days a week, and run marathons, so you dont have a problem, move on to another forum".

Ok, waiting for those 40 replies now...

Well, we all play the mind games. I do not think anyone is here if they do not have a problem. I would have never thought to come here a few years ago. We are here because we think we maybe have a problem. I would be on other forums. Just my thought.

I'm also a marathon runner and have found training for a race gave me motivation to moderate when I otherwise would be pounding the heineken like there was no tomorrow. I also had high blood pressure and the doctor was alarmed at the size of my heart when my drinking was very much a problem. I still run and have moved on to other healthier activities, other than drinking, to take the stress away. The high blood pressure is also gone. Some quality time away from alcohol made me aware I don't need it at all. My next 26.2 is late September. Good luck
