Introducing myself
Good Morning all,
It was a fitful nite again. The Calm Forte didn't seem to work at all but no hangover so that's something! It's another beautiful day here in New England and I've been very lazy so far. Made a wonderful Veggie Frittata for breakfast which is novel for me and have just finished reading the paper. Still have tons of housework to do and will be meeting a friend for a long walk with the pups along a resevoir later this afternoon. I think tonite will be very tough and I'm hoping the L-Glut and Kudzo will kick in before that. I have a dental extraction scheduled for tomorrow afternoon and I've read that taking the 2 together can increase bleeding although there isn't a lot of documentation and the risk is considered minor. If anyone has any info on that I would love to hear it.
Have a great day everyone, thank you for all the support. I haven't been successul with other things like WW or sticking to a financial budget. Somehow this feels different. Almost a matter of life or death???

Pam - you can ask the dentist about bleeding, but usually you have to have been taking something for awhile for it to have that sort of effect, but still ask.
I bought some melatonin for sleep - 5mg. Works swimmingly - I had trouble sleeping first week - by week 2 it improved. started using melatonin to get to sleep more easily a few nights ago & it worked like a charm. I had been staying up too late 'waiting' till I was tired enough - which was never - so this way, I can take my melatonin about a half hour before I want to go to sleep - drink my before bed decaf tea or whatever & go to sleep. It has worked great. I slept really well last night & feel great. Try getting some - sleep really helps & makes it so much easier not to drink. Also remember to eat. It's better to have a full tummy when trying to avoid the AL.
I have a feeling you'll do well here. I have a furry family as well (no kids) & I too used to 'forget' to feed them when I was drunk - horrible dog mom . . . .how bad is that . . . Now - that doesn't happen!

Thank you AD and Funny Girl and everyone else who replied back last nite. I don't know how I am doing it except that when I called in sick on Friday after going home sick on Thursday I just felt so scared and ashamed. I guess I was at crossroads. I've had this whole weekend off so I was able to concentrate on getting the supplies and getting started with the program. A couple of times I've wondered why I started this on a Friday instead of a Monday. I could have had a whole nother weekend to drink and say goodbye to AL!! We always start on mondays don't we? Anyway I'm not that together-my house is still a pit and with 5 longhaired animals that's not an exaggeration!! Doesn't help that I ran out of vacuum bags and can only get them at Sears :upset:.
Funny Girl-thank you so much for sharing the fact that you had often forgotten to feed your furkids too-I feel so much better and not so alone.
I'll mention to the dentist the 2 supplements and what I read about them and I'm sure it will be fine.
Now off to my walk with my friend!!
:thanks:

Introducing myself
Gosh I hope so!! Just got back from a wonderful walk on top of a Dam along a resevoir with 2 friends and their dogs. it was glorious! Then I did a few more errands-had to pass by the liquor store and all I could think of was how nice it was out and how great a glass of wine on the deck would be. I tried to keep in my head how horrible I would feel tomorrow morning if I gave in (both physically and mentally) and kept that vision in front of me as I drove by. I'm home now with my reward-crab rangoons, pasta and sauce and Texas Garlic Bread for dinner. I'm going to make myself a mocktail of pomegranite juice blend and lemon seltzer, eat the rangoons and then make dinner. I'll read a couple more chapters of the book, take my melatonin (thanks for the suggestion!!) and the rest of the supplements and hope for a sound sleep.New Birthday: May 8, 2010

Mocktails can be your new ritual. so can making a wonderful dinner. I've found the food tastes better! Enjoy. I'll be making some lovely tortelloni & a quickie red clam sauce to go with them while I watch the Oscars myself. Congrats on your great day. The melatonin will help. Let us know how Monday goes.

Introducing myself
Good Morning everyone!! Another gorgeous day in New England!! I have my tooth extraction and first cleaning in 4 or 5 years at 11. I've decided to hold off on the morning supplements.
Last nite wasn't bad-sleep was a little hard to come by at first but I think once I fell alsleep I stayed asleep until the alarm went off. i think. Hopefully the Melatonin helped a bit.
I have to vent a little. I was wondering why the book I paid for and downloaded recommended 150mg of Kudzo 3x/day when I was seeing others post up to 3000mg/day so I did a little search and found an updated PDF written in 2006. I'm a little peeved because they have significantly changed the dosing recommendations of all the supplements which means I will need to buy much more than I did. They also changed the Magnesium to Mag Citrate so that whole bottle i bought is now a waste. I really think that if they give you the option of downloading the book, they should also include the updated addendum. Have they not printed any new versions since 2005???
Anyway, I can't dwell on this too much-it is what it is. I guess if the mag doesn't upset my tummy i can still use the plain kind. At least I've been able to add one more day of sobriety to my life. I go back to work tomorrow and back to the crazy schedule and stress. My plan is to go take the dogs for a walk this afternoon after the dentist, go to Curves for the first time in 5 weeks after work and then go home via the route that doesn't pass the liquor store. Wish me luck!

Actually according to the "new" guidelines in the update, they've upped the kud to 300mg
3/day for 900 but the range is to 3000. Yep, the L-glut is 1000mg 3x/day which is what they left out all together in the original version of the book. Anyone else upped their Kud to 900/day? Any side effects or drawbacks?New Birthday: May 8, 2010

Introducing myself
First day back at work since last thursday and since starting the program. All I can think about as I get ready to leave is a nice glass of wine when I get home but I KNOW that it won't be 1 glass or even just 2. I keep trying to remind myself how bad I felt last Thursday and Friday. I wish the supplements were doing a better job.New Birthday: May 8, 2010
