I have decided that tonight, I will not drink. My drinking has created such a self-loathing and emptiness in me. I'm hoping this is the right place for me!

Hey...
Fennel, I think you have come to the right place! I decided not to drink yesterday, and with the love and support of these wonderful people, I DID NOT! Today I decided not to drink either. My determination is herculean! Something about this furum and its participants is very powerful in helping me to keep my promises to myself. Read a lot, participate in posts, and you wll be pleasantly surprised!
Love & Peace, RE:crazymonkey: RivEd

Hey...
I didn't drink yesterday, choosing not to drink today either, and I will deal with tomorrow when I get there. looking to far ahead can make it seem too hard. focus on today and know you have my support. good for you.I wish I knew then what I had to learn now.

Hey...
fennel!
U r certainly in the right place.
I am ONE WEEK without drinking and I did it by logging onto this place daily, reading, posting, praying......and repeating.
I find it helpful to go to live chat during the "witching hour" and visit with members. There is a ton of wisdom here.
Good luck to you!
:welcome::h getting better every day

Hey...
Most of here are learning to take little steps. I think I'm getting stronger. I've managed a string of days now, but 5 - 7pm is still hard for me, so I try to keep busy. Yesterday, I had to go to the supermarket during that time, but managed a passing glance at the wine and bought only what I came for.
Read a lot of the stuff on here and read the book and see what you think. If you fail one night, don't give up and get discouraged - just carry on until you get stronger.

Like you, I breezed right past the beer cooler/wine racks in the market yesterday. Boy, did I ever know they were there, however.
I'm still learning my way around here, but it will give me something to do in the evenings.
In the mean time...WOOT! I made it through evening one! Weird, because I was acutely aware every single moment that I was not drinking. I had bizarre dreams last night that my partner and I were sleeping in a room in my childhood home, and opossums and raccoons kept crawling up through a small hole in the floor. I kept grabbing them by their tails and pitching them outside until I grabbed a flashlight and went around the house and discovered that they were getting in through an open basement window. Talk about weird!
Thanks to everybody who chatted with me last night, too. :thanks:

Wow, one month...that's fantastic! It seems like such a far away dream to me right now. I plan to spend my evenings here, to help avoid trouble. I'll be seeing you around!

Hey...
Hi Fennel
A dream interperter could have fun with that one. Keep that basement windoow shut tight. I had weird dreams in my first couple of AF days too, but never put it down to withdrawl until I read that others have had weird dreams when withdrawing. Keep your sense of humour. It will pass. Great that you managed to walk past the wine and beer too, even though it was calling to you.

Hey...
Hey, Fennel, I am so happy you found this site. You found a great family of love, understanding, support and encouragement. I could have never made it without this site. I always started drinking vodka at 5:00 every day and didn't stop until I passed out. I had to change my schedule. Now instead of drinking, I am here on this site from 5:00 till I go to bed or either reading the book "The Easy Way to Quit Drinking" by Allen Carr. I would highly recommend everyone to read it. It changes your whole attitude about alcohol. Alcohol is poison and every time we drink it, we die a little bit more, physically and emotionally. Just never look back and beat yourself up over your past and never worry about tomorrow. Just focus totally on today. Just get through this one day without drinking alcohol. Every time you deny a craving, it gets weaker and you get stronger. Pretty soon you will begin to feel better and your journey will get easier, but if you do fall, it is so important for you to get right back up and try again. No one will ever judge you in here. We are all here for one purpose...to get and stay sober. We all try to help one another on this journey together. Best of luck and love to you, VickiI'm not what I should be, I'm not what I could be. I'm definetly not who I want to be,
but I'm sure not who I used to be!
There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still.
"I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME." Phil 4:13
