Today is a very important day in my life

Yes - it should be getting warmer . . . .it was 60 degrees on Thursday, then on Friday it was 50 dropped to 30 then went to 20 started snowing on Saturday morning & snowed all day & all night. Got about 8 inches . . . yuk! But - I live in the midwest, so stuff like this happens here. We've just had an especially bad winter this year - lots of snow. But, it's kind of been bad all over - even on the east coast. In the midwest they say - if you don't like the weather - just wait an hour . . . .

I'm hoping this is the last of the cruddy stuff . . . .it's supposed to warm back up into the 50s this week. I hear NZ is just beautiful - I've never been . . .Maybe someday.

Where are you, FG? I'm in WI and we got a dusting of snow on Friday night. It's all gone now.

Also, here's a nice little easy to read summary of what's in the current house bill & a link to the CBO analysis for those of you who do have an interest. Easier to read than the longer documents out there that are adjustments to the White house proposal that was a modification of the original House & Senate bills.
Thanks Funny Girl, that was very helpful.

I'm in MO ('misery' as some call it - I've begun to understand that nickname now . . ) - right on the KS/MO line in Kansas City. It's sunny today, so much of it should melt. Happy Monday all!

I'm sorry but I believe this bill is promoted by politicians, not Statesmen who are interested only in the best interest of the country, and for that reason I can't support what was passed. We NEED something for the people, not something with so many tags on it and photo ops it helps no one but costs the working individual more until it becomes impossible to work for a profit. This has nothing to do with party, just what I see. I believe everyone who contributes (not children, elderly, truly infirm) deserve health care that they can afford by paying WHAT they can afford. I'm old enough to see that giving without expecting accountability does NOT work. My parent's generation worked under Roosevelts program, and they WORKED. No one gets a free lunch. Someone pays.

This bill doesn't 'give' anything away. All it does is increase access to coverage & provides easier ways for businesses to pool resources to provide insurance for employees. there will be many changes to this & most likely a lot of what is in the bill may never come to pass, so it's premature to think that this is in any way a final bill. We live in a different country than in Roosevelt's time . . . everyone is not as lucky as you may have been.

Funny Girl, this is why I said you were smart and compassionate on your 30th day AF. You truly rock and I hope you go forward and achieve great things.

Contrary to what some people think, I can finally sleep at night. You see, I am not covered under a husband's plan. I make my own way in life. What this bill does for me is it gives me the opportunity to both shop and pay for insurance without being discriminated against because I have a drinking problem. End of story.

Luck has nothing to do with it. I come from a long line of people who worked for everything they had. Yes its a different time than when Roosevelt was President. Now we have more people who feel entitled. I believe everyone should have the same access to good health care, but what is the bottom line on who will have to make good the checks this administration is writing? I don't want the government controlling any more of my life.

Yeah, well, I have an MBA and I am bilingual. What about you? How hard have you worked? I get so damn tired of these people who think they've done everything. I don't feel entitled. What I want is the right to go out into the open market with a drinking problem WITHOUT a spouse and get insurance. Ruby, en otras palabras, entas pensiando mal! In other words, I am out of here. The one thing I cannot endure is people who think they are above it all. Ruby, you are one of the people who does not care about your fellow citizens. Good and fair. I simply cannot stand being in the same room with someone who feigns what you do and then what? At your age, at age 58, you had different opportunties. They are no longer.

MWOers, I love you all. I have simply come to the point where I cannot stand being in the same room with a heartless republican, so I sign off. Such are my political beliefs, and so storng.

Anotherday, I hope it all works out the way you believe it will. Personally, I have a hard time trusting that there are no "gotchas" in that 3,000 pages. But that's just my own trust issue with politicians.

I hope every day that people are treated fairly, honestly, and represented that way by our elected officials. As I don't belong to a political party, these comments are interesting. If it matters, and it doesn't, I am well-educated, and speak 3 languages, but that doesn't change that I study current events, look at what is being said and then what is actually done. Apologizing for where I am in life is hypocritical; I embrace the differences in opinions we all have. But, as others have said, I worked for the government for 24 years, and the waste and bureacracy are astounding. It my great hope that this bill will provide what uninsured Americans need; however, the majority of Americans do not believe it will. As far as Roosevelt, Obama was the one who first channeled him in this administration, with the slogan 'Shovel Ready', which was discarded as soon as it was found to be impossible to implement. Discussing politics is always dangerous, but if you bring it up as a subject, you should be prepared to accept that others may not share your views. I would never attack someone for their beliefs. That is what every generation of my family has fought for since the American Revolution. We had no insurance until after our second child was born. We pay over $300.00 a month now for what we have, and again, I won't apologize for the coverage it has taken 33 years to acquire. I am now disabled, partly because of the physicality of the work I used to do, for the government. I wish you all the best, and thank God every night for our men in service who help preserve our right to disagree. That's what America is all about.

Can't stand people who think they are above their fellow citizens? My goodness, I hear that dripping in your post.

Oh, btw, I have a degree in Mathematics, I speak 3 languages and I am considered a genius.

However, I am still a drunk.

I hope and pray this bill does not bankrupt "the richest country in the world." Too bad China in the richest country in the world.

We are just third rate right now.

Not commenting on the health bill. Our health care has always been absymal for most, that is why the Canadians and the rest of the world has been coming here when they are really sick.

But, I cannot stand the uber elite who consider the rest of us beneath their views.

Voltaire used to make jokes about his opponent in order to minimize his/her point. It works well.

Unfortunately, it does not shed light on the debate. I think Socrates is seething.
