Im trying so hard to limit my drinking but i just love wine,I know i have a big problem but at the moment i just dont want to give it up completly.I did have a bad upbringing but dont blame my love of wine on that.If there waas vodka in the house i might have one with tonic but that would be it.

:welcome: to the forum. Have you read the My Way Out book? It's a great place to start. You can download it from the Health Store and start reading right away. The book gave me a great base line to start with in building and working a plan for sobriety. I have tweaked my plan to make it my own - what works for me. But the My Way Out plan was a great starting point. (for me, everything except the prescription drug recommendation)
All the best to you!

Hi tictak,
I know what you mean, I love wine too.. especially with food..either at home or at a restaurant..
My problem is I often cannot stop at one or two! Try and think of the wine as a poison.. it is still AL even if it tastes nicer than other AL.. wine is often made from rotten vegetables left to ferment.. its only made to taste nicer with sugar or grapes..
Try and find lovely AL-free drinks or if you love the taste of wine you can buy zero AL wine that will still make you feel you are having "real" wine.. but remember wine is still a poison that is doing damage to your mind and body!

I still suggest the book. Milk Thistle, as an example of one of the recommended supplements, is actually recommended for liver support.
Will you be seeing a doctor for help? Just asking about your plan!

tictak, I have the exact same issue. I'm a major foodie, and a pretty decent cook. I'm really into wine pairings with food, cheese, etc. It's a major struggle for me to sit through dinner without wine. This is my third AF night, though, and I have to say that the dinner period was fine. It's been helpful for me to splurge on different high end sodas. Sounds bizarre, but it's been working.
Anyway, it's good to see you here.

Hi Tictak,
Welcome to MWO, this is a good place!
Reading the MWO book as DG suggested really is a good start.
It will help you formulate your plan.
Have you seen your doc & had bloodwork done? Don't just assume you have a damaged liver.
A simple blood test will reveal a lot.
I was a wine drinker too, loved it, drank tons of it! When I quit drinking last year I do so without taking any of the recommended supplements or Rx meds. I relied on my own vitamin, mineral & herbal supplements to get me thru. I did use & highly recommend the Hypnotherapy CDs. They really helped me change my thinking! They are available thru the Health Store here.
You will have to decide what is best for you but just know that you can do it! It takes a lot of work & effort on your part but you won't be sorry!
Wishing you the best on your journey & please feel free to drop in the Newbies Nest thread for some support!

Wine, cigarettes and internet. Yep that was me. And breaking the habit was hard. But you can do it. In times of weakness I do not turn on my computer. Therefore I do something that does not involve wine or cigarettes. I still want both occasionally, but have been without wine or vodka for almost 3 months and without cigarettes for over a year.
Try going 7 days without wine and see if you still feel you want it as badly.Alcohol is poison to my life - AF 04 January 2010

Me too. Love wine. But I used enjoy it more when I could go wine tasting, buy expensive wines and share one bottle with a couple of friends without having to open another later for myself. Recognising your trigger times is good. Certain foods set me off, but I'm getting over this now. Evening time and stressful times are difficult. Tonight has been a stressful day and I so nearly bought a bottle, but managed to tell myself to keep going, especially as I've just started taking Milk Thistle and want to give it a chance. I think it gets easier to talk yourself round as you go on, but you can't rest easy.

Thanks for you're replies everyone. Not turning on the computer is a good one i use. Most days when i come home from work i make dinner for the kids and then have a bath and go to bed and read my book. But i do feel im not living as in i cant do the things i want to like go on the comp or watch tv without thinking about opening a bottle of wine.I feel im just running away to my bedroom.
I will definetly get some milk thistle as ive heard that it is good for your liver.I did have a blood test last august that said my liver function was ok and so was my cholesterol but ive heard these tests can be flawed and i also get a slight ache where my liver is.
