    What's your Sobriety Plan?

Thanks DG for the fabulous insight and thanks Greenie for the bump or I would never have seen it .............

This prayer was given to me on a little card at my first AA meeting, and I read it with my coffee EVERY morning

Just for today I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Just for today I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."

Just for today I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my "luck" as it comes, and fit myself to it.

Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.

Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn, and not get found out; if anybody knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least two things I don't want to do - just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.

    Just for today
I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, keep my voice low, be courteous, criticize not one bit. I won't find fault with anything, nor try to improve or regulate anybody but myself.

    Just for today
I will have a program. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision.

    Just for today
I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective of my life.

    Just for today
I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.

    Love & Hugs, BB xxx

The 'bumps' are used to keep the topic near the top of a discussion board. Without a bump, the thread or topic gets buried rather quickly.

        Hope that helps

Another way of keeping a topic on the front page is by people responding....

julz, appreciating what we have been blessed with is really something good, isn't it? I totally lost site of everything that really matters in life (and even stuff that doesn't really matter much!) in my alcoholic haze. I like your mention of changing what rolls around in your head. I've had to really work on that part.

Strength and hope to you and everyone who is working to change!

                  What's your Sobriety Plan?

julz, thanks for your mini plan for the day. It really reminded me of all that I have. So far the only thing I have lost to AL is my self-respect, my honesty and my peace of mind. Note I say ONLY! Jeez.
I have a wonderful husband and daughter, great friends, my car, a home, a garden and a gorgeous day outside just waiting for me. Thanks for reminding me.

prancy, I have to constantly remind myself of all I have to be grateful for. I have a long way to go before that will be "automatic" I think. (unfortunately!)

Thank God we stopped before we lost more. I have no doubt that I would have slowly lost more and more (or maybe not so slowly!) had I kept up the drinking.

                          What's your Sobriety Plan?

A detailed plan might look daunting at first. But think about how daunting it is to get through a day filled with a bad hangover, wondering what happened last night, the effort involved trying to convince the world we really weren't THAT drunk, etc. Living with a good plan for sobriety is SO much easier than drinking ever was for me.
