Counseling
Well, I am going to my first counseling session tomorrow. I found out my health insurance covers it for a small co-pay. I have never taken this approach to my addiction before. I guess I have been avoiding it, hoping something else would be the magic bullet for me. If this doesn't work, I don't know what else to do. I will remain positive and give it time.:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

Counseling
Hi K9 -- good approach!! Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can be very helpful with addiction as it can address reasons for anxiety or underlying depression. Many alcoholics have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), myself included, & drinking was a form of self medication.

Counseling
Hi K9,
I loved my counseling sessions. The first one or two were strange but once we got into the swing of things I really looked forward to going. It was just so nice to talk to a complete stranger and to be myself for the first time in ages.
See how it goes, you might end up enjoying it.
Best of luck.

Counseling
K9,
Good luck.. I have been seeing my D+A counsellor for almost a year.. he is fantastic.. he is a psychotherapist and has gotten to the root of why I drank and was addicted to getting drunk.. a great saying he said to me was, which greatly helped me stop drinking was, due to my low self-esteem and borderline personality disorder "why would you even consider drinking AL with your issues - its like giving a child a box of matches to play with".. he was so right.. AL and my brain chemistry just do not mix..
I am sure you will find the counselling tremendously helpful,

Counseling
Hi K9 and good luck.
I had my first session last week. I didn't get to tell everything but then I can't relate 39 years of problems in one hour.
She's really pleased with the progress I have made here. She taught me some basic coping strategies to deal with bad memories and anger. I have used them and they seem to be working - it's still early days though. I will be going back.
Apart from time (and some money) you have nothing to lose.
Let us know how you get on.

Counseling
Going to see counselor in a couple of hours....slightly hungover. Ugh.
He is a psychotherapist and not a psychiatrist, so he will not be able to prescribe me anything for anxiety....I was having serious withdrawals last night so I felt I had to drink to relieve them (sick thinking...I know). Thanks to all for the good wishes, I'll keep you posted on my progress.:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

Counseling
1st Session
Well I completed my first counseling session. All in all, it went really well. Of course we didn't have time to dive into the "why's" of drinking, but we will get there. I have 5 more sessions set up. My psychotherapist was a drug and alcohol rehab Director for over 15 years. I did get a chance to tell him about this wonderful MWO forum, and he was actually quite impressed to hear about it. I really feel this will be a positive thing!:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:
