    its now or never

    1967
You beat me to it! I was going to write in response to Mario, I've been thinking it through in work today. Excellent post - well done. I'll be short

motivation for stopping - just fed up of thinking about alcohol. fed up of giving up only to start again. weight gain. fear of the future, health wise. fear of others thinking of me as a heavy drinker. fear of getting worse and worse.

the good things - I like the taste of wine. it's sociable. i can join in.

The plan for urges - a problem. I get urges after a few days of giving up. I'll eat a bit more
I know that others will want to me join in, and I know that I'll be tempted. - I'll drive- at least this Friday when my first real test of the week will come.

I'll get that far - already it's a help to get it written down. Thanks Mario, 1967 and Mollyka. Will be back.

      its now or never

I too had some trouble with that whole concept of "never again." I can't really say for sure that I will never drink again. What helped me was to find this phrase which I believe is absolute FACT:

I can never drink SAFELY again. Ever.
Another suggestion for your plans is to CHANGE your people places and things. If you hang out with your drinking friends in the same places you've been hanging out, and doing the same things, you are far more likely to drink than if you make some changes.

Find some new things to do, different places to go, and some new non-drinking friends.

Doggygirl you are really strong! Sober since 5/22/08, amazing!
I will admit I was trying to be sober then too.
        Yikes.

This evening my new mantra is 'I have nothing to be anxious about, I have nothing to be anxious about.."

For some reason I feel rather calm today.
Maybe because it is Monday and I know tomorrow is the last day of work until next Monday?
        Probably so.
It's okay I am still going to enjoy it.

        I like your phrase Doggygirl.
        Very true for me too.

tylyr eating more is a good place to start.
I have been sick of weeks now and feeling a bit better.
I will sleep early and may hit the gym in the early morning for a short workout.

        All is fine here, thankfully!

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Saying that however many times I need to each day, and really thinking about it given each situation has helped me achieve more inner peace.

            1967,

What an incredibly brave and insightful post....in that you have inspired a lot of people here, especially me! :-) :-) and I will reap the benefits! Great job!

            Mario,

Your quote replays in my head daily, "Nothing changes if nothing changes." How true that is! And I am going to follow your advice about writing down the pros and cons about drinking and I will be graphic with the bad parts...they are SO bad and they are so painful :-( I am grateful for your wisdom and the thoughtfulness you put into your posts.

I start my journey again, Day 1 AF today!

Have a wonderful AF day today, all my MWO friends!

Best of luck Rusty. I've been on Day 1 many times. I've been tempted today, but managed to keep busy. How are you doing 1967? Coming here is certainly helping - even if it's only to catch up. My next test will be on Friday evening, when I meet some drinking friends. Hey, Ho.
