It's written all over your face!

Last Sunday morning, the morning after I polished off the better part of 2 bottles of Chardonnay, I took a picture of myself with my iphone. What I saw staring back at me was horrifying! My face was bloated and shapeless, the skin tone blotchy, red and sallow. My eyes were blood shot with big black pillows underneath, dragging them down. The expression on my face a combination of resignation, helplessness and chaos. Pure proof that this drug ravages the user!

This Sunday morning, 7 days AF I took another picture with my iphone. Now the wrinkles are still there, (have not had the chance to run it through photoshop, joking of course) but the swelling is gone, no bags dragging the eyes down, but most importantly the look of chaos has been replaced with an demeanor of enablement. I understand that I have a long road ahead of me, but these two pictures will serve to remind me how methodically this drug consumes you and yet how we all have the power within to free ourselves from it.

What a fantastic post....! I wake up every morning looking like an 80 year old woman , bloated, blodshot eyes, black bags and skin like a road map of Britain. After just two days my skin looks better and the black bags are just a light shade of grey now

Loved what you wrote and if it's vanity that stops me well then so be it, something has to!

    Much love

It doesn't stop at day 7 either. I find from 3-4 weeks on everything just starts to clear up - hair fantastically soft and skin lovely and smooth.

Well done on 7 Days AF, NT! Keep going....it keeps getting better!!

I also know that face in the photo staring back! Argghhhh! Unfortunately, I have several years of such photos of me to look back on! Geez....I look like I had a face lift now!! Actually, two years of sober living has provided me with the best makeover possible!! My makeover has been both inside and out and I am so grateful for sobriety!!

              Best Wishes!

What a great post! Drinking does take a huge toll on our looks, and let me tell you as I climb out of this hole I look forward to a better looking me!

Thanks for the reminder, because who doesn't want to look better?!

Imagine if we used our Iphones to video ourselves drunk too.... :wow:

You know when I look at the first picture what screams out is "Who did you think you were fooling! It's right there for everyone to see, YOU HAVE A DRINKING PROBLEM!" When I look at the second I see a flicker of power within me to conquer this problem. I must tend to and nourish this power until it is strong enough to be the prevailing influence over me. We all have the power within us to conquer this thing!

Very Beautifully Put! Your on your way...

You know, this just dawned on me...

Its not just our faces we deal with. Its the faces of our loved ones too. Its the sad look of a child whos mother is too hungover to get out of bed, or the happy face of a child who's mother is feeling good and wants to play. Just saying our faces extend into the lives of those we touch, and the way we deal with our problems is written on the faces of those we love too.
