        Headaches

        Hey SUmmer Girl.

        How'd it go?!
        AF since 15th March 2010

The journey is the goal. As long as you're fighting the good fight and you're not giving up on giving up, you're winning. It's not about how often you get knocked down, it's about how often you get up again. Sobriety the goal for sure. But striving to get to that goal is what it's about. Not getting there. Because the journey never ends. The journey is the goal.

            Headaches

            Hi Summer Girl

I had raised liver enzymes when I first went AF and now my poor old battered liver is back to as near perfect as it can get. I religiously take Milk Thistle everyday, it's a very good liver cleanser.
The liver is a very forgiving organ and normally can turn itself around in about 6 - 10 weeks AF.

Sorry about the migraines, I used to suffer terribly from them when I was pregnant.

Hey Summer girl, I hope the pills help with your migraines. It is encouraging to read Jackieclaire's post. Perhpas in time, with continued sobriety, your migraines will subside too - lets hope. Have a great weekend,

                Headaches

Hi Summer, so glad you finally got some answers. I wonder if the migraines are related to the liver enzymes being elevated. You'll just have to give it time. In the meantime, Milk Thislte and SAM-E are the way to go to help heal your liver. You MUST remain AF for this to work. The elevated enzymes are your first warning that you were heading down a very dangerous path. A warning about Milk Thistle-if you are allergic to ragweed either don't take it at all or just take the minimum dosage recommended. If you get rashes, you will have to stop.
Good luck and please keep us posted. Also, i think someone mentioned your diet seemed low in protein so you might want to increase that consumption with lean meats and soy products.

                  Headaches

Hi Papmom: Sorry if I gave you the wrong idea I do eat meat, cheeze etc. I just eat tons of vegies and brown food with it. I do agree with you that the head aches are related to the liver problems,I guess it is just that my liver was not able to process the AL. I am taking milk thissle How much should I take? I was taking the l-glutamine but read some where that if you have liver problems that it can turn in to s ammonia that can be harmful to the liver. Right now I do not want to drink,it does cross my mind but I do not want to start over and go through feeling this bad again. Thank you every one for your replys it sure helps and even though I do not know any of you I feel that I am not alone in this journey.l:l:

                    Hi Summergirl!
I too have constant headaches, my liver was awful up to about 2 months ago and its absolutely A1 now so as long as you stay off the booze it'll be grand.

                      Headaches

Summer, I'm not finding anything in the program updates that says you can't take L-Glut with elevated liver enzymes but I am finding some reference to that on the web although most have to do with HIV patients and people trying to build muscle.

If it were me, I would cut out the L-Glut for now, take the Milk Thistle (MWO program updates recommend 300-600mg per day), SAM-E (Please do your research on this one as far as dosage), Evening Primrose Oil (MWO recommended dose is 2600 mg/day split into 2 doses, after breakfast and after dinner) and the GABA (MWO rec. dose is 750mg in the morning). Both the SAM-E and the GABA must be taken with B vitamins so if your using the ALL ONE powder, take them with that. Obviously check with your doctore before adding or upping any supplements. If she is not well versed in treating Alcoholism of the effects of alchohol dependence, give her a copy of the MWO program or at least lead her to the website. If she doesn't seem interested, find another MD.

It is imperative that you totally abstain from AL if you want your enzymes to go down and your liver to go back to normal. Those elevated enzymes would be enough of a scare to ride out any cravings for the rest of my life. The cravings only last minutes, the liver damage for the rest of your life which could be cut very short.

Check out the Holistic Healing thread-there might be even better advice for you there.

Good luck and I hope your liver returns to normal soon and the headaches go away quickly.
