starting out again for the millionth time

    Hi anon,
Here is a good thread to read in the evening when the siren song is loudest.
    https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...-31-22609.html

Sort of your morning self reminding your evening self the consequences of giving into the beast.
While we may not be able to control all that happens to us, we can control what happens inside us.

I read that thread and posted to it too, I need to stop. I don't drink every day but boy when I do i really go for it! I want to stop and will come here again. I am so glad i found this place, not so alone with my problem as i thought and that is good to know.
It takes only one drink to get me drunk. The trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or the fourteenth. :teeter:

DYI, WELCOME. This is a great community of people dealing with their alcohol issues. Lots of support, and plenty of knowledge being shared througout the different threads. I encourage you to read, ask questions, and participate as much as you can. I do, and it has helped me alot.

Last drink was 28th May so as today is my 3rd day AF. Lovely day here (also in England)
Woke up feeling great and came to computer to post and it had crashed ---so instead of getting mad I fiddled about and fixed it. I would not be able to do that with a hangover.
Off to spend the bank holiday walking in wales with no visits to pubs.
Thank you all for the positive posts. Still feeling a bit nervous on this site is that normal?

Thanks for the welcome guys. I feel very excited and a bit scared as well. I know going back to work today is going to be hard but I am also looking forward to getting it over with! I have decided to try to 30 day AF that I have read about on here. So, this is Day 2 for me.

I know my challenges will be weekends mainly, and also facing the stresses and strains of daily life without relying on booze to help me sleep and forget everything. I have been thinking a great deal about this especially since finding these boards, and now at least I don't feel so alone and also, I don't feel so ashamed talking about my drinking as I hide it from everyone else as much as I can in my r/l.

So *takes a deep breathe* here's to the next 28 days. I also wanted to ask if anyone here has had counselling and did it help?

Thanks again for all of your warm words of encouragement, it reall means a lot. And good luck anon, enjoy your bank holiday, AL free of course

                                :welcome: alicia,

Just thought I'd add my hellos. There are loads of us here who have added counselling into our tool box including me. Funnily enough after the first couple of sessions we hardly talked about alcohol. Because this time I went into the sessions without a hideous hangover they have helped me beyond words.

I got referred through my GP and my councillor was a marvelous man who also gave me a lot of home reading to do. I really looked forward to our sessions. Give it a try, you never know you might like it.
