Am I kidding myself
Am I kidding myself? I have had 5 pints today! Just after seeing the doctor when he told me he thinks it will be better for me to give up al completely. Massive guilt trip here as I thought because I had seen the run up to binging that id be ok. When I binge I normally do 8 pints + so in away I have said to myself no I wont have another one even when I did.Don't Let The Bastards Grind You Down - Eat Them Alive

Well, Flip Top,
6 pm on a Tuesday evening and 5 pints down already, I have to say I agree with your doctor. Can you stop now and swap to water and avoid giving yourself a banging hangover in the morning? Will you be able to drink within the recommended UK guides of 21 units a week?
Time for a big re-think of your drinking patterns.

Yep fraid so Flip Top, the alcoholic brain is a deluded load of nonsense. When I first went to my doctor to 'fess up I drank like a tank that morning and he asked me had I been drinking that morning and I looked at him like he had ten heads 'of course not'!! Then went home had half a bottle of vodka and then drove to work. Some part of me thought that was ok - just a last hurrah sort of thing, it is very very frightening how our brains work with alcohol. So yes M'lord, you are kidding yourself, as we all did and still do when we drink

The way I see it is that when I used to go out and had more than a few the following morning I was always wracked with guilt, remorse etc etc. When my husband goes out and has a few, he feels a bit shabby the following morning and then gets on with the day.

Flip its good you stopped at five and picked up the water. Although you dont know it that may be progress. I know for me if I had have had five that would have meant drinking to blackout. Glad you did stop and decided to come here instead.Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

In reply to Mollyka...Oh I had to laugh at this...It's not funny but the crazyness of it makes you have a hysterical giggle..I plucked up the courage to mention my drinking to our family Dr about a year ago, and he asked the same thing..and I indignantly replied "of course not.." then went home, drank a bottle of wine and went to work!!30 day Challenge...started 16.08.2010

Think this has been said before - if you are drinking then Anti Depressents dont' have a great chance of working. I tried the same and I just ended up drinking more. Not until I went AF and got out of my rut did things start to life.

Flip - with your anxiety issues you really need to ditch the booze for good so you can work on sorting out everything else. I just spoke to a girl at AA who had been diagnosed with bi-polar and was on some serious medication. Since she has been AF her Doctor has been slowly reducing her anti depressants dosage and she is now on the very minimal amount and expects to be completely off them very soon. So much for the original diagnoses!!!"In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer ."
