This is an article written by an Irish journalist Suzanne Harrington about her alcoholism. I thought it was a good read and much of her experiences would resonate with many people here. Worth a read.

Fab KTAB - this article completely resonated with me especially with the part about wanting the partner and child out of the house so I could have 'me' time.. no!!! wine time on my own. and then feeling so quilty about it but then hoping they wouldnt come back too soon.

Thank you, this is a part of it I loved and wanted to share with anyone starting out on their journey:
"This is the bit where you think your life is over, with nothing to look forward but a lifetime of tee-totalitarian tea-drinking. This is where you’d be wrong. The best thing about getting sober is that everything I thought about being sober was wrong. Completely, gloriously wrong."Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Fantastic Article.. Could realte on so, so many levels. And how encouraging this:
Ironically, I have a better social life now than I ever did when I was drinking, and a lot more friends. My connections are more meaningful, and not reliant on bar-room bonhomie. I have more energy on all levels; physical, mental, emotionalAF since 15th March 2010
The journey is the goal. As long as you're fighting the good fight and you're not giving up on giving up, you're winning. It's not about how often you get knocked down, it's about how often you get up again. Sobriety the goal for sure. But striving to get to that goal is what it's about. Not getting there. Because the journey never ends. The journey is the goal.

KTAB, thanks for sharing this article I enjoyed it. The point she makes about the tipping point, is interesting. I wonder if most people (who can't stop over years and years )have to have some life turning moment or realisation to really go sober. All the best,
