    aches and pains

I'm happy to report being AF for 12 days now. I'm sleeping better, eating better, and doing more. Do I feel the benifit from this?
    No!
It's a struggle to exercise and I really have to push myself. I can't believe how much I ache. My arms, neck and upper back in pariticular. Just wondering if anyone else has felt like this? (as the muscle pain and fatigue are reasons why my doc wanted me to abstain instead of moderating anyway)

    Hi and welcome

Yes I felt exactly the same and I'm an ex-fitness enthusiast. A sports therapist tells me AL dehydrates your joints hence some of the pain. The other thing is that AL is a painkiller. Soo when you stop using it your nervous system fires up and you are exposed to all those normal aches and pains it had covered up. Finally of course if you were like me you wouldn't have been using your muscles as actively or indeed be as active as when sober so you need time to get 'fit for life' again.

All this results in the aches and pains. Good news is that your joints recover, your body hydrates, you get used to normal living and gain strength. Mine were worst around 4 weeks into my training/working/sober life plan but now are hardly there at all as my body has gotten fit.

Congrats on Day 12 I was just going to write a similar post. I'm on day 23 AF. The first several days AF I had a nasty headache and then it went away for a week or so and now it's back and has been for the past 5 days. Also, my legs are really achy today and my tendonitis in both my elbows has flared up again. Good to know that the aches and pains are not uncommon.

Question: when does the burst of energy come? I'm still feeling fatigued most of the time even though I am sleeping like a baby.
      NF - 3/17/09

      AF since 5/24/10

I'm on day 16 myself. I haven't noticed any significant changes in my physical condition and don't have any aches or pains. Sleeping is not good but the clear head in the morning is excellent. Energy levels are about the same. I think it will probably take the full 30 days before there are any significant changes because that's about how long it takes for our body cells to replace themselves. 30 days (not a 'month') is interesting...why this number of days? It can't be magic. There must be a reason. Anybody know what it is?

Alcohol has a direct impact on joint & muscle health. Nutrients are leeched out of the body over time when we abuse alcohol. I suggest you continue to take your supplements, including the amino acids. Some gentle stretching should help too. If this continues for much longer, I was visit your doc. Hope you get some relief though!

I've added this. I hope you find it useful...

YES. i actually posted a thread with the same title. i do think maybe the fact that i am doing more may be factor. also i have constant diarreah from the campral im taking which may be affecting my nutrient intake and keeping me a bit dehydrated. im gonna go and see the doc about this as i have quite a lot of AF time now. i can only suggest taking it easy. as uk said AL could have been masking some aches and pains that were already there and we just didnt notice
Today is the tomorrow i worried about yesterday and it turned out fine

Thanks for your response peeps, much appreciated. I did some ground work and realized that it could be the drug I'm taking, (Topa), my age (I'm no spring chicken!) and the GABA. I've cut back on the dose of Gaba and feel better today, not so fatigued. I exercised last night and that seemed to help a little too.

Helps to know that there are otheres out there...
