Guitarista I really hope I can also be 20 months sober...and I do believe you when you say it gets easier. I didnt think it would. I thought it would be mental torture to give up drinking but its not half as bad as I thought! It is definitely worth the battle.The pluses outways the cons by miles. I am definitely hanging on!

Just thought I might add that marajuana is not the harmless drug many people think it is - and I was one such person. I've seen, heard and experienced myself what it dies which includes destructive paranoia, mental health problems and for me?Well I thought it might be a good substitute for AL, and indeed a friend recommended it as "harmless". Well I started using it just like AL but luckily I was able to see that before it did any more than render me useless each evening.

In my opinion anything that gives the human a high is potentially addictive and if it's psycho-active (AL, weed, coke, E) then it's potentially very harmful.

Drugs are illegal because they came along, were only recognised in latter years. AL was already accepted as 'normal' when it's actually a very damaging poison never mind drug!If AL was discovered now it woud almost definitely be banned. It isn't and it is difficult for those who do enjoy it(and some of those suffer from the negative side effects even if it's only monetary and a few hangovers)to realise this.

For us it doesn't really matter - legal or not we can't touch it and as an alcoholic all other mind altering substances are also best avoided. Whilst on the subject I've met recovering alcoholics who have looked down on [illegal] drug addicts as disgusting. I think their attitude is appalling, misguided at the least and the only thing separating them is that their drug just happen to be illegal/legal. We alchies have done similar sneaky, horrid things because of AL and the addictive behaviours are more or less the same. But for the Grace of God.

Just reread my last message and it was pretty ignorant what I wrote. I have been lucky not to be addicted to marijuana but yes it can be very harmful as I have seen how it can affect other people. You made some very valid points.
