    I'm new without a clue

    Hi Nobody and welcome

I'm in a similar situation to papmom, and following the MYO completely. I've been AF for 3 weeks now and was drinking a bottle of wine a night prior to stopping. My doc wanted me to abstain for 2 months due to chronic fatigue with muscle pain, as not even someone I adored could persuade me to cut down. The program has really worked for me. When I first took the topa, within 1/2 an hour the cravings had gone for large chunks of time. Last night was my first time mixing with people that where drinking. I had no cravings, but was a little quieter than usual. I was terrified that not drinking would leave a huge hole in my life I can honestly say that I don't know where that time has gone!!

We're hear to help you do this for yourself and your family

Hi Nobody and Welcome! Congratulations on your 2 days AF, those first steps can be the hardest. I too am (was) a boredom drinker. When I was drinking I lost all interest in hobbies or reading. However once I was a week sober my energy and attention span rebounded. I started filling my drinking time with new books, or projects. This activity soon feed on itself, and I found a new sense of accomplishment which helped me say no to a glass of wine in the evening. I also found it critical to have 3 healthy meals a day, drink loads of water (hunger and hydration are enemies of sobriety) and the supplements helped to curb my cravings and mood swings. Then with that fresh head in the morning, get up and get out for some exercise! Lastly read post and share. This forum is such a wealth of support, information and camaraderie. So glad you found us!

        I'm new without a clue

        Welcome Nobody,

Wow imagine what you could accomplish in a day with some sober days under your belt. You can do this. All the good advice from everyone...take it it will do wonders. Definitely need a plan and keep busy and distracted during those craving hours. Find an AF drink you like and promise yourself to drink it first before you reach for the beer. that was my drink of choice too. If beer were not on the planet I would lead a very sober life.

        You can do this!

          I'm new without a clue

G'day Nobody. That's some pretty steady drinking you've been doing. I was a beer drinker myself. Just to get it straight, is that 10 to 20 stubbies of full strength a day? I was in that league myself so I know what it is like. It is all too easily done.

Like you I was concerned about it, tho' I didn't feel that I couldn't handle it. Didn't get falling down drunk and managed to do all that needed doing. Like you too the time came when sense and reason kicked in. The pattern was unsustainable and only going to get worse. I went looking for information and advice. Came here and saved the day.

I lurked for two weeks, read the posts and realised the first step was to go AF for 30 days.
I nerved myself up to it and took the plunge on 1 June. First day was OK 2 & 3 a bit tough, after that, and since I had made my mind up, it's been easy and I'm now on day 26.

My advice first off is to do the 30 days, tough it out, it's not long really. Think what you can do with the saved dough and think about how much better you will feel physically.

When I've done my 30 I'll post what happened. Good, bad and ugly.
Your digestive system will respond noticeably and pretty quickly. This is tangible evidence of change and first of significance to arrive, especially the final output stage.

Look at it as an adventure...you are going somewhere new and different. Keep notes of what changes occur. Physically and in your mind. Make it fun ( it's all in the mind anyhow)
All the best. If I can, you can. I'd like to refer you to a current post by river0123 entitled "Forever Grateful" in the General Discussion forum today.

            I'm new without a clue

I fall into that boredom trap myself.. boredom and frustration because I have to 'wait' for one thing or another to be done, which should take 3-4 minutes and ends up taking long enough for me to loose interest and decide I can wait in a restaurant and indulge myself again and again.
Believe it or not if I stay home (and haven't been to the grocery) I generally do okay.

We just have to look at it as how to cope with life for today, right?
